1. apparently with this text message system they feel like they can't give 100% guarantee. Apart from that I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Same. And VerifiedFan's system among other things is to battle scalpers, so if Ticketmaster verifies you "as scalper" they might also exclude you.
  3. We'll see how this goes. It'll be curious to see how many subscribers drop off if they don't get codes...

I have to imagine that is just a disclaimer should something go wrong. It would create a massive shitstorm for U2 if subscribers were left out.
  4. If they didn’t offer a code it would sort of be false advertising because it says ‘paid up subscribers will be at the front of the queue’ in the renewals post in the news section.

It would absolutely be false advertising. Without reading the small print I am paying for a service and in return wouldn't be receiving the service I paid for.
  6. I sure hope you guys are right, and they are just covering the butts in case of a texting delivery snafu.

It shouldn't be like general sale where you may or may not get a code.
Which I also think is crappy. I'm cool with Ticketmaster trying to weed out scalpers, not cool with them picking and choosing which 'real' people get a chance to buy.

It has to be a cover your ass deal.

How may subscribers shell out $50 year just for the pre-sale opportunity.

Are they willing to lose all of them?

It is LiveNation, so maybe they are. But at the end of the day it's U2's reputation, not Live Nations...

A Ticketmaster rep just told me on the phone that presale codes are NOT guaranteed for all fan club members. He said they just had a meeting about it this morning and that it would be a lottery-type system where only some fan club members will receive codes and others will not. I looked at some of the information on FAQs posted on U2.com and it seems like he's correct... This is copied directly from the FAQs (note the part that I bolded in red): "Once I complete all the steps on the Account Info page, will I have access to the U2.com Verified Subscriber presale? All subscribers who complete the required steps and are verified will be equally eligible to receive an invitation for the U2.com Subscriber Presale."

That sure sounds to me like it's not a guarantee. That is a slap in the face to the fan club members who have paid thousands of dollars on memberships and concert tickets. In the name of preventing scalpers from getting tickets, we are being forced into this Verified Fan system that doesn't even guarantee that we will get a presale code. Doesn't seem very fan-friendly to me... I'm so frustrated... Every single presale is the cause of a lot of stress and disappointment for U2's most devoted fans.

I really hope that TM rep was confused. This is some serious BS.

God I'm not looking forward to Tuesday. If I don't get a pre sale code I will flip out.
  10. that'd be outrageous.
  11. Well I for one better get a pre-sale code and tickets or I will be contacting American Express and getting a refund on the $50 (US$ or 65$ Canadian) renewal. Amex guarantees every purchase and if you are not satisfied they happily refund your money, regardless of the merchant's policies. Glad I have that card!
  12. Still don't know if i want to renew. And now it may not be guarantee you get a presale code? That's a crock of shit. Not spending 50 on a subscriber gift when it will be cheaper on ebay. Like Boy concert on vinyl. Got it for $12
