1. There is a phrase in Dutch that says 'stilstand is achteruitgang', which means something like doing nothing is going backwards. Doing nothing is not an option here at U2start, we are U2 fans, and U2 fans are people who like to share their love, share their ideas and contribute to the world. We came up with some great new ideas for another new version of U2start and developed it in a few days, this is U2start 3.0 and it's again, better than ever.

    Video bootlegs
The first major enhancement is the addition of video bootlegs. Video bootlegs are concerts of U2 in video, which you can download easily. You're used to the best, we give you only the best: we already have 54 video bootlegs for you, direct downloads, already available to you, for free, today! A lot of great features on our video bootleg pages like video previews and the option to sort videos on quality and type of recording (amateur, pro-shot). Any videos you might want to add can you add to our "I Have A Vision" forum. Our crew will pick it up and add it to the video pages. In a few days you can expect at least 5 more video bootlegs from us.

You can find the video bootlegs along the existing streaming videos on the video pages. Enjoy!

    Lossless recordings
The second major enhancement is the addition of lossless recordings. U2start has proven itself to be the number one in lossy recordings (MP3) and because there became more and more interest in lossless recordings we decided to offer that too. At the moment we already have 65 lossless recordings easily available for you, and for free. Any new lossless recordings you can add in our upgrades and additions forum.

You can find the lossless recordings on the bootlegs pages.

    Other improvements
Our support is greater than ever with two new FAQ and info pages for videos and lossless recordings, everything you want to know on what lossless recordings are, how you can convert videos or anything else you want to know is available on our FAQ and info pages.

You can also search for bootlegs on the bootleg pages, sort bootlegs on review-rating, see the latest bootleg reviews and the most reviewed bootlegs and see the songs who are added the most to the 'notable live performances' on a bootleg page. There are also two new RSS feeds, five new information blocks for the rotating footer and the bootleg tab-option on the frontpage is rewritten.

    Our appreciation
Special thanks go to our translators this time, the users LikeASong, sadb7788, JohnnyVOXX, loftarasa, spiral_staircase and theedge123 who I greatly appreciate for all their work they've been putting in support translating this website in six different languages. If you want to add your own language or if you are interested in helping translating future U2start versions, you can send me a private message.

I also would like to point to you our donation page, I don't like doing this but since this site is getting more and more expensive (and bootlegs are more popular than advertisements) we could use some support. As usual, this is not a requirement for U2start, we will always be free, but a little help is always welcome.

Thank you, enjoy the new features, enjoy U2!
  2. Amen to the lossless section
  3. love this
  4. Bloody unreal! Another fantastic improvement.
Will the videos including iPod ready versions?

  5. No, those will stay at the forums. A sticky thread will be coming to organise them.
  6. Very nice addition - well-deserved for a site like this.
  7. Greats news!
U2 start, the better, thank at all the crew!
  8. Ill throw together an ipod video topic later tonight.
  9. Awesome adds!!!
    Great improvements!!

    thanks a lot!!
  10. Good step to add the lossless stuff. If a new recording pops up and the taper requests it to stay lossless, I'd suggest to respect his wish and keep it that way now that you discovered the lossless format. Everyone can convert the lossless files for personal use.

As for the videos, that's another good idea, too. I'll take a video 10 times over an audio recording There I'd suggest the same treatment as for the audio stuff. Some filmers don't want their stuff to be converted...
Also, depending on the source material, I'd suggest using a higher bitrate and to use the xvid codec. Some 1200 kb divx videos are unwatchable on full screen.
Oh and it wouldn't be a bad idea to provide screen shots taken from the converted files and not the Original DVD...

And I wouldn't be the picky asshole I am if I didn't comment on the "number 1 in lossy recordings":
  11. great improvements, cheers
