1. This must have passed me by somehow. What are these recordings? Are they good? Available somewhere? Official?

  2. You MISSED these? Come on, get up from under that rock

From a thread I found with the search page:
    http://www.savefile.com/projects/923039

You can clearly hear an early Window In The Skies version from one of the tracks for example. They were recorded from outside Bono's house in France.

Works fine, just click "download" twice at the right of the song you wish to download. If it's not working you should check the FAQ on savefile.com.
  8. These clips originate from a time before my discovery of U2start.

Based on the way the recordings were made they sound sonically awful for obvious reasons... but very interesting. Exciting. Thanks.

We'll find out if the new album sounds anything like what we hear here. I doubt it. Considering they collaborate on their recording with Lanois in Morocco... everything will turn out very different. And we'll see what's gonna happen during the next year. Maybe they bring Rubin back... or Eno. Maybe Steve Lillywhite, who knows?

  9. I remember the day these came up on U2exit, the fans went nuts - some guy was even counting how many chords they had as well as how many seconds for the delays, my god that was crazy. Great tunes though - and trying to clean them up was even funnier.

You ain't gonna get CD quality from a hand-held recorder at 32Kbps!

For the history of "beach clips", the same thing happened with HTDAAB - Miracle Drug, Vertigo, All Because of You and Love and Peace were leaked, from the same beach house in Eze, France. Something similar happened, not on a beach but some fans were able to see sort of what the Vertigo desert video looked like from a far distance.

Alex, I think you'll find Steve Lillywhite is coming back. If you've heard the original Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, he was the one who convinced the band to re-record because the original went up and up - and came back flat because there was no lead-out, just almost silence.
  10. they were recorded on a mobile phone. I recognise the DSC filenames. Theres a few decent tunes on it and Window The Skies is there plain as day. Great littles record

    Really?

    Thanks for all the info.

  12. I'll see about the HTDAAB 'alternate' beach recordings too.
