    Don't worry. It's an Explorer not THE Explorer. Remember, he has duplicates of several guitars, spares, etc.

    hmmm check atu2, maybe they jumped the gun but certainly seems its THE explorer. god I hope not. I read though when Edge auctioned the white Les Paul he said he wanted to give something that was special to him. I just can't see a U2 concert without this guitar again, it won't be the same

    The press release said the following:

    "Amongst the donations from the Edge is his early stage played 1976 Gibson Explorer Guitar. Edge used this guitar in many stage performances since Joshua Tree as well as U2's Music Video for "Beautiful Day" (est. $80,000 and up)."

    Since they said that the guitar has been in use since The Joshua Tree tour that would mean it's a backup. Still very cool.

  8. Edge has at least two if not more of the 1976's. It appears that the #2, that was tunes to standard E, used for Miracle Drug and Beautiful Day is the one on auction.

    Edge's first Explorer usually stays in E-flat for older tunes.

    Also interesting... The blue 1981 Les Paul Standard is an interesting item. Wonder what songs it may have been used for in the studio?

    So even if the Explorer being auctioned isn't his # 1, it's still one used alot, since The Joshua Tree tour, per a Harmony Central article that I read. So I'd be great to have, if one could afford it. Heck, I'd be happy to win the U2 rings!

  9. Yeah, that to me was probably one of the more desirable items. Reading the description however reminded me of the old joke that goes "this is the axe that George Washington used to chop down the cherry tree. Of course I've had to replace the handle... and the head." Somewhere on YouTube there's a clip of Edge telling the joke poorly to describe one of his amps.
