Yeh, I enjoyed the concerts, but there's something about the dark and the stadium being only lit by the odd mobile phone screen (ahem, cough etc) that adds to the playing of those songs .
I always prefer to be wrapped in the darkness. It focuses your attention more on what's going on on stage, the music being played and adds to the experience.
In the daylight, seeing the blue sky, the inside of the stadium, any empty seats, the road crew, the rigs, seagulls and pigeons flying by - all that takes away from that experience.
Arenas don't have that problem. You're inside and it's dark - no distractions.
Yes, on the Elevation tour they began with the lights on and that was great fun, but then darkness the way it should be.
So I think that people's perceptions of the JT30 tour were affected by this.
Give me the Joshua Tree album and give it to me IN THE DARKNESS!

Well, they can't really do much about it in a lot of Europe if you're playing stadiums.

I don't think too many shows were affected by this.. not in the South of Europe, not in Berlin where it was raining, not in Amsterdam which was indoor with the roof mostly blinded.. maybe Dublin and Brussels only?

I think Paris was affected by it judging by some pictures and Twickenham definitely was, I was there night 1 and it was light for the majority of JT. That’s something I’m looking forward to in Singapore seeing the show in the dark.
