You have to convince someone at the streaming services to buy it. Just because it's made, doesn't mean these services want it. As U2 learned with the 2018 tour film...debuting in theatres is a route that other bands (Depeche Mode, The Cure) have successfully used to raise interest in their projects.

What happened to the 2018 concert tour movie? Was the final outcome unsuccessful?

It was offered to streaming services but none of them wanted it. Most likely because it was too expensive. Hence a "short" version was aired on multiple channels as this most likely was cheaper.

Has a short version been released? Can I find it somewhere? I tried to look it up, but it seems impossible to find it.

Originally posted by enoone:The Cure did their brilliant Reflections shows on Broadway... but that didn't need "raising awareness". They bloody played their first three albums in total, in sequence. Streaming services wouldn't touch it because they played for 3 hours and The Cure wouldn't offer it to streaming services because money isn't the essential, singular goal, the way it is for U2.
