I also call it the world obsessed with their addiction to capitalism. If I were other bands who watched the scenario play out, I would say "well I guess people don't like free stuff, better charge them up the ass for everything."
I never understood why people were so upset with getting the album for free. They don't need to listen to it. When the news came out I kept checking my i-tunes account and couldn't find the album. I even tried to buy it then but was told I already owned it. Then I tried to find people with an i-tunes account that had the album and finally asked my goddaughter for a copy. Then I found this forum and found an explanation how to find it in my i-tunes account. And got stuck here.
  2. The free download of Invisible on iTunes was a dry run for the release of the album.

Except SOI went into everybody's libraries and then downloaded automatically to their devices (for those who had a certain box checked).

What if an album of an artist you didn't like was put onto your phone without being asked? You wouldn't be entirely happy either.

I was happy with it but I can understand why people weren't.
  3. Exactly.

If an album of an artist I didn't like was put on my phone I'd just go ahead and delete it. Wouldn't be particularly bothered by it though. It doesn't make sense why people moan about getting something for free that they're not forced to keep. If it was completely impossible to delete it then that would be understandable.

This is how sensible people react.

    This is it.

And it was a fiasco. I loved it? Yes. But it was a fiasco, like it or not. A GREAT album full of incredible songs was released to the biggest audience ever, and 95% of the critics and comments focused on the delivery method. Fiasco.
  7. I think it shows the people writing the critics and comments were the fiasco, not the delivery method.

Guess this has been discussed before, but just to clarify, the issue was that with Apple's cloud approach, even if you delete a song from your phone, it will still show up in the music app as a cloud song, and can be streamed when you're online.

If people didn't want it to show up in their shuffle plays, they'd have to disable the cloud feature - which not everyone knew how to do, and even if they were, what if they didn't want to disable it? Maybe you don't have enough space on your phone, and you want your songs streamed, but nothing from U2 showing up.

That's why Apple had to introduce the tool to remove the album from your list of purchased items.

If someone wanted to give me free music, I'd be all over it. I'd listen and if I didn't like I could delete it, or probably do what I do with everything else I burn out on and don't listen to... Leave it in my library for another day. It was laughable how many twits got their little free-stuff loving panties in a bunch over someone giving them a free album. If it was Jay-Z or Kanye or Katy Perry they'd be saying what a brilliant, thoughtful gesture it was...
