Lyrics:
Barbara, Santa Barbara (x10)
California, then we fell into the shining sea
The weight that drags your heart down
Well that's what took me where I need to be
Which is here
Out on Zuma
Watching you cry like a baby
California, at the dawn you thought would never come
But it did
Like it always does
All I know
And all I need to know is there is no end to love
I didn't call you
Words can scare a thought away
Everyone's a star in our town
It's just your light gets dimmer if you have to stay
In your bedroom
In a mirror
Watching yourself cry like a baby
California, blood orange sunset brings you to your knees
I've seen for myself
There's no end to grief
That's how I know
That's how I know
And why I need to know that there is no end to love
All I know and all I need to know is there is no end to love
(Guitar solo)
All I know
I know and all I need to know is there is no end to love
We come and go
Stolen days you don't give back
Stolen days are just enough
I love the intro -- Beach Boy-esque harmonies aren't something the band hasn't tried before but IMO they work and bring this song to a whole 'nother level. The chorus I feel could've used more Edge power but the harmonies sound so good and soaring to make up for the lack of guitar. Plus Bono's singing is awesome in the chorus.
Listening to it again right now. I love it, I like the Santa Barbara intro. Not what you'd expect from U2, I think it's great. This is one of my top picks from the album, I think. Very synthy, cool
At second full listen: worst on the album probably. The song is not terrible by itself, but I just totally despise the production. Same lyrics and chords but with a totally different approach would have made a(nother) brilliant song. But not the way it is.
