1. It has been discussed a few times before. The Rapidshare / MediaFire reliability issues. Every week we have to remove dead links from the site. Most of the time without consequences, since we have most on both RS and MF. But for videos and lossless recordings its hard to keep everything online.

Before everyone starts worrying about bootleg availability: Don't
We have a multiple options under consideration that may help to keep our video / lossless collection online. One of our options is a Torrent section. This is the one we start exploring.

    Why a torrent section?
Torrents are designed to share large files quickly. Especially during the tour. On popular and new recordings it can beat the relatively slow transfer speeds of free RS downloads.
Another important concept is sharing. It will become very easy to share stuff with everyone on the site!

If chosen.... Will it replace the current show section + downloads
NO we will always have RS / MF links for mp3 bootlegs It will be just another link in the header.

Why dont we host the files ourselves?
We have several options Torrent section is just one of them !

Havent we got enough torrent sites? ( Dime / Traders Den / U2Torrents)
If choose the torrent section will support the rest of the site. Not replace our site. We won't forget what we are. We will continue using Rapidshare and Mediafire as our main download services It will be purely for the sharing spirit and the availability of the bigger files.

    So how can i help?
The torrent section has been under development for a while now. We need quite some users to test it! Using your feedback and suggestions we can determine if this is the way to go or not.

Want to help us ? Just post a message here and we will contact you this weekend. Since we are using our own custom made tracker software the more participants the better!

  2. I'm down, I need to download some stuff anyway
  3. I think it's good already

I'm sorry I didn't come up with ideas or suggestions: I'm not too much into this kind of technical stuff. As long as there is a button called 'share' or 'upload', and a button called 'get this for free' of 'download', I'm pretty satisfied.

That being said I wouldn't mind a possibility to provide samples, like on other torrent sites. I think it's good when people can hear a sample before they possibly waste their ratio.

Oh and don't you forget to clean up my mess before the torrent section goes online for real? I left a horrible Dublin remaster in the test area that shouldn't be left online, and a premature Buenos Aires thing that I never seeded...

All in all, I like the idea. For big lossless files this definitely is the way to go for anyone without a paid Rapidshare account.

    cheers
  4. Don't worry, Noise, everything will be cleaned up before actually releasing it to the wide public Thanks for your help anyway
  5. I don't see the point of a torrent section, but if you decide to start it, will it be reserved for lossless only?
  6. Noiseless, dont worry i will clear everything today

Lossless, dvd, mkv and maybe digital radio broadcasts. And yes i know the last one are MPEG2 audio, but the quality is much better than 32 khz DAT recordings

No worries, a lot of DVDs have lossy sound, too. I was just wondering if it will be used for "big" files only or for all kinds of files.

  8. Focus on big files, since the current system works pretty wel for smaller files.
Its not that hard to reupload one or two links for a lossy mp3. But >6 for lossless or HD video is though.

But the rules are still a bit in the open. That said we of course won't allow officialy released content, we already have a filter for that We currently have a minimum ratio of 0.4, starting credits of 10GB and free leech support. But your feedback and others will decide which stuff we add to it.

I will definetely add FA/SA/sample functionality. Can't believe i forgot that

May I knw why, if you please? (no offense intended, seriously... just your opinion)

  10. Well, with U2t being there for years and doing a good job, I just don't see the need for another U2 tracker. Especially if the rules are gonna be more or less identical.

  11. I understand Are there rules you'd like changing? Because it is still in the open.

Also we are thinking of allowing lower sourced official content, like AUD recordings. But for the obvious reasons we wont allow broadcast / soundboard / iem sources for those shows. This is all under consideration.
