1. Hey just wanted to mention a couple of shows that I find I listen to over and over again.
They are both from the Vertigo Tour.
10-8-05 Madison Square Garden- One with Mary J. Blige, you also get to hear Bono talk s***t to a fan.
10-25-05 Detroit Mich. Great crowd energy, it just seems like U2 magic at it's best.

You say you don't want have a milllion bootlegs; now I say, download as much as you can!!!

Hey great list, the Denver one is the best i've heard so far, great for getting to know the older stuff in my short time here.

PopMart in Jo'burg is also a great gig, great mix of both crowd and sound quality
  3. I noticed that you all posted latter Zoo TV shows but there definately must be mentioned also Stockholm II, and some shows from 1st leg, (Tacoma, Vancouver..) I find these early shows far better than ANY Zooropa show, much better Bono's vocals, it's not all that scripted, there are improvisations, more energy, Who's gonna ride your wild horses,... So give it a try. They're not soundboards but are very clear and very listenable, Stockholm II is almost like soundboard
  4. My faves [sound wise], when starting to find these AWESOME Bootlegs, my first agenda was to find the best quality, rather than best performance, i would get the best sound quality gig's first, then after that, go treasure hunting for other gems.

    Early - 26.02.1980 - Dublin

Is a real pleasure to be able to listen to U2 when they first started out, i always loved the early stuff, so this broadcast is a real gem, hearing them sing Silver Lining [which went on to become 11 O Clock Tick Tock & Trevor - Touch], also some other old original classics such as Magic Carpet & Speed Of Life.
    .

Boy - 23.01.1981 - Belfast [Boston is excellent as well]

We really are spoilt to some fantastic sound quality concerts from the early gig's, and the Boy Tour dishes up some rippers, Hilversum, Belfast, Brussels, Netherlands, Boston [was released as a digital download], San Francisco & Galeen are all MUST HAVE'S sound quality wise.

October - 13.12.1981 - Lido Beach [London 23.08.81 is probably better, but only a small gig]

Probably not as many great quality gig's amongst the October Tour, essentials are London, Los Angeles, Lido Beach, Roskilde.

War - 03.07.1983 - Werchter [Red Rock's is also awesome]

Like Boy, War really is blessed with some awesome boots, Manchester, London, Glasgow, Boston, Devore, FULL Red Rocks gig, Werchter & St Goarshausen are a must.

Unforgettable Fire - 27.03.1985 - Montreal [21.11.85 Dortmund is an obvious choice as well]

Unfortunatly we don't get any Broadcast's or Soundboards from U/F, but there still are some great bootlegs - Montreal, Dortmund.

Some not so great quality but must have's include Nantes [they play Wire, U/F, Homecoming , Bad, Pride and Indian Summer Sky - A REAL HIGHLIGHT], Bologna, Chicago, New York to name a few.

Conspiracy Of Hope - 15.06.1986 - New Jersey

    Joshua Tree - 29.04.1987 - Rosemont / 07.11.1987 - Denver [Can't split them]

    Lovetown - 26 & 31.12.1989 - Dublin [also can't split these]

Zootv - 28.08.1993 - Dublin [rated by all, as it's a GREAT bootleg, sound quality & performance wise]

Washington is also great, and naturally Sydney.

    Popmart - 14.11.1997 - Miami

Los Vegas [where they bugger up Staring At The Sun], Edmonton, Sarajevo, Mexico & Santiago are also MUST HAVES.

Elevation - 25.10.2001 - New York [also Cleveland & Florida are must have's]

Too many to choose from from the Elevation Tour, Florida, Cleveland, Chicago, 6.7.01 Boston, Slane, Indiana & New York for a start.

    Vertigo - 18.06.2005 - London / 20.02.2006 - Sao Paulo [02.03.2006 is also a must]

Vancouver, Chicago, London, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires & Saitama are must's, the 18/11/06 Melbourne gig is special for me personally as i was front row after lining up for 33 hours.

  5. G'day Alex! Here's what I'd consider my favourite "just one boot from every tour"

Boy Tour 1981-03-07 New York - has Out of Control, I Will Follow, Electric Co., An Cat Dubh, Into The Heart and Stories For Boys. What a set.

October Tour 1982-07-04 Werchter - same reasons as before.

War Tour 05.06.83 Denver - the best U2 songs feature here.

Unforgettable Fire Tour 1984-10-25 Paris - full recording, and some of the greatest U2 songs to ever be played are here. Bad, A Sort of Homecoming, MLK, The Unforgettable Fire...New Year's Day, ''40'', Pride...

Conspiracy of Hope 1986-06-04 California - not one of my favourite tours (in fact, possibly my least), but possibly the best one from the CoH tour. Plus it was for a good cause so that's alright.

Joshua Tree Tour 1987-11-18 Los Angeles - opens with Streets, plus I have the DVD. That DVD is essential viewing, and the boot is essential listening.

Lovetown Tour 1989-12-31 Dublin - the show of the 1980s. How many bands have been able to play two decades in one night?

ZooTV Tour 1993.11.27 Adelaide - I know I've said before it sucks, but the best ZooTV bootleg. Sounds almost like a studio recording with some of the best songs. Plus it's from my hometown.

POPmart 1997-06-15 Edmonton - the first time I ever saw POPmart, and still the best.

Elevation 2001-10-25 New York City - I love UTEOTW here, and Kite is performed brilliantly.

Vertigo 2006-03-02 Buenos Aires - sure, Bono hasn't got the best vocals but for sheer audacity. It's actually very hard to decide between Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo, but Buenos Aires has to take it.
  6. Here's mine then:

BOY: 1981-03-06 Boston, Massachusetts - The Paradise (1)

OCTOBER: 1981-12-13 Lido Beach, New York - Malibu Night Club

WAR: 1983-06-05 Denver, Colorado - Red Rocks Ampitheater

THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE: 1984-11-21 Dortmund, Germany - Westfalenhalle

THE JOSHUA TREE: 1987-12-19 Tempe, Arizona - ASU Sun Devil Stadium

LOVETOWN TOUR: 1989-12-26 Dublin, Ireland - Point Depot

ZOO TV: 1992-08-16 Washington, District of Columbia - Rober..

These are all 4.5/5 or 5/5 sound quality. These are my personal favourites , hope that's a help .

U2360 Tour (so far): Don Valley Stadium Sheffield, 2009-08-20 (radio broadcast)

I too started out, thinking "one bootleg per tour". Next, I thought, "only radio/tv-broadcasts", because of the better sound quality.
But for me that just doesn't work: there are always performances that have that one special song that is only featured so rarely in a tour or those special occasions that make a gig special (think of The Lovetown Tour in Amsterdam, where Bono "loses" his voice, or the concert from PopMart at the Estadio Nacional in Chile), that I keep downloading them (51 boots on cd and still searching).
