1. Another remaster? Yes! And again it's a recording made with a ZOOM microphone set (IQ5), this time connected to an Iphone 6+ (see info) by usc1995. At first sight this recording may appear to be the lesser of the two LA 5 recordings, but after some tweaking of various levels, I believe it came out to be (at least) "on par" with the mixter recording. Enjoy!

    *Original Notes [usc1995]:
"So this is just my second recording [Section 225, row 19] ever.
My first was at the May 26 show but it was just ok and not worth
sharing in light of the others shared here. This one came out better
although the gain on the mic was set a bit low. I ran the lightning
cable extension to my hat where I cut a hole for the mic. They really
mixed up the setlist so it makes for an interesting show. There was a
long break before "Every Breaking Wave" as The Edge’s piano was
malfunctioning and Bono was stalling for time by chatting away.
The recording is good for what it is but it doesn’t really compare to
a “real rig”. Hopefully you guys will enjoy it."
  2. sample: Vertigo
    sample: Invisible

PS: for my friend BloodRaven, again, the whole show in just 3 files...

PS2: I really love this show. Not only because of the 3 debuts but in large part because of the Bono "talkshow."
I wish he could do this more often...
  3. Thanks a lot for other great remaster. Any possibilty to get this in lossless?

    best regards.
  4. You're spoiling us, thank you so much!
  5. woah.... thanks!!

also, LA5 is still coming on top for me this tour, so I'll be listening to this one a lot!
  6. For treasure:

(...and everyone else who still likes to burn cd's )
  7. So was this more of an experiment in the mastering process? I've done that before in the sense that I want to try working with different sources or effects.

It just seems really strange to me to try and get a C- recording up to a B- recording...while there's a solid B grade recording already there. Why not spiff up the B (mixter) recording? I have the mixter raw files if you want them (assuming he gives his go ahead).

Would be very curious to what sort of steps you do on the remaster. Looks like a broadband 1:1.6 compression and then a smiley eq?
  8. a smiley eq?
The eq I do is manually. And for the rest: this is a sound that I like and it is good enough for me + I like the fact that this is an iPhone recording.
  9. Smiley EQ. Boost on the lows and highs. Looks like a smile on a eq graph.

Spot checking it now. Bit harsh on the high end but its workable. Muddy bass but that's to be expected with the source. Could use some de-esser in a few sections. Have you experimented with some sort of declicker tuned for removing errant claps? I like Izotope RX's declicker.
  10. OK…I see what you mean
The lows (here 16 to 198Hz are boosted slightly, with 3dB at max @ 64dB.) The highs not even that much. I did experiment with de-clicking years and years ago but I was never a big fan of it. It does not have to be perfect for me...

I work more on the basis of feeling. For most audience recordings I only adjust the volume and restore the balance to my liking. The “EZcompresion" is a function in my PristineSounds program – software that was recommended to me when I worked at the PolyGram (music-cassette) mastering department back in the late 90-ies - but what the EZcompresion excatly does, I don't know. I suspect you are right: a generic broadband compression. I try to use it mildly (the test with this i+e tour is EBTRT )

Compared to cooking, I’m not a 3 star chef and I don’t have the ambition to become one. I rather think of myself in that terms as Bistro “cuisine” – nothing fancy, just trying to make it tasty…
Earlier this year I did some speed corrections guided by the original timing of the PA intro tape (e.g. All you Need Is Love in 89/90) – simple but very effective to make a recording much more enjoyable.

I sometimes dub my mixes as “remastered for iPod” because that’s basically what I use it for myself.
