1. I don't like these kind of links, but for the sake of argument I allow it.

One thing though: just because guitar101 says it's so, doesn't make it true.
(and I personally think this is a classic example of confusion!)

Anyway, I wouldn't be so skeptical if I can understand how this Outside Broadcast "bootleg" could have been broadcasted. This question needs to be answered.
  2. The broadcast came first. The bootleg was created from the broadcast. Zoo Radio was a massive U2-led radio event the week of the TV special.

    Broadcast 1992
    Bootleg 1993

But it's best to check. (BP Fallon is a bit mad.)

As for the broadcast, it may have been beamed live from a single source. It was definitely aired at exactly the same time in the UK and Ireland. In that case it would be like any live broadcast and therefore not have a CD.
Yes, I've seen that entry and link. The problem is that it isn't conclusive to whether it refers to the Outside Broadcast or the Philips DCC special.
    - but we'll check...research takes time!

And for the radio broadcast, it might be a possibility. My tape from the Dutch "Radio Veronica" says: November 27, 1992: 24:00 - 02:00. That would have been 23:00 - 01:00 in Ireland & UK.
  4. Zoo Radio entry:

A Zoo Radio special included live selections from 1992 shows from Toronto, Dallas, Tempe, and New York City.[51] BP Fallon citation

    TV Special entry:

On 28 and 29 November 1992, a TV special entitled Zoo TV Featuring U2 was aired, featuring portions of several "Outside Broadcast" leg shows as well as William S. Burroughs' reading of the sardonic poem "Thanksgiving Prayer". Directed by Kevin Godley, the programme was broadcast in North America on Fox, and in Europe via Channel 4, Premiere, France 2, Rai Uno, RTVE, TV1000, and Veronica.[127][128][129][130] Separate citations.

Not that Wikipedia is always to be trusted. Plus, it could just be that Houston was missed off the list. I'll go digging for tapes to see if there's anything on them from Fanning in terms of info.

    Broadcast 1992
    Bootleg 1993
OK, some technical info here: the version I shared of the Outside Broadcast bootleg has a spike at 19,000 Hz, whereas fm broadcasts typically have spikes at 16,000 Hz.
But a pre-fm - like a radio transcript, or radio "promo" should have had no spike at all.

So I'm thinking that this 19kHz spike could have come from a satellite transmission (or how ever they "beamed" it) to radio stations across Europe.

I'm beginning to think that this "2nd promo disc handed to someone at BBC" story is starting to crumble...

Yes, this is the PHILIPS DCC presents: ZOO TV: http://www.u2songs.com/news/philips_dcc_presents_u2_broadcast_on_fox_tv

  7. The TV Special was 27th November so I'm guessing that tape your pal has is an audio rip of the TV show. (I found mine- same info on it.)

Zoo Radio was earlier that week. The info on my old tape above is from the 'credits' at the end of the Dave Fanning show broadcast.
  8. Pride and the Radio One interview are just tacked on the end btw.

    Here is my tape:

Definitely a straight radio recording! Now what's on it, is another thing... unfortunately I can not check since my tape deck broke down...
  10. Love it! Found some proper gems this morning also, including the RDS show with 'official' Hot Press inlay. Such great times.

Anyway, there's a bootleg of the Radio Veronica version of Zoo Radio called 'Zoo TV: The Last Broadcast.' Lists the date as 29.11.1992.

On the plus side we've isolated tbe right week!

I strongly suspect that we are a long way down the rabbit hole here!
  11. This thread is depressing me. And angering me. I wanna string the guy who stole this from me up by the balls!

LOL...been spitting to my old Propaganda magazines...amazing stuff...but unfortunately no info on the broadcasts.

Can you point me to that bootleg?

BTW, this is the "PHILIPS DCC presents: ZOO TV" broadcast. it makes so much more sense with the visuals
