U2 pay Tribute to R&B's own Whitney Houston in Newark 3 nights in a row.
Spotify- Newark. NJ. irish singers U2 traveled to Newark to do 3 concerts in memory of Whitney Houston. U2 stated in a New York Press Conference that they would bring Whitney's family out to the setlist. after hearing the news in February. Bono decided to do a little dedication at MSG. before they were about to end their set with Love is Blindness. Bono got on the mic and said "Whitney Houston. tonight we dedicate one more song for you and they went into One Tree Hill. after the show. Bono got a phone call from Whitney Houston's Daughter and asked them to play in Newark. U2 couldn't refuse as Bono said this to her "we never turn everything down. we will be there". they kept their promise honoring Whitney Houston. the first night went off pretty great. the Third Encore was very haunting. the set looked like it was going to end with 40. but U2 did a cover of One Moment in Time. you could hear screams pouring out the arena as the spirit of Whitney Houston lived. then they went into Moment of Surrender & One Tree Hill. the second night was marred by some snippets of her music including Walk On when Bono sang two snippets of Heartbreak Hotel & Saving all My Love For You. the third night came when Bono dedicated Pride (In The Name of Love). Bono yelled all the names who died. i want you to sing this for John Lennon. Jimi Hendrix. Michael Jackson. Bob Marley. Amy Winehouse. Ronnie Van Zandt & Whitney Houston. then an image popped of her during MLK. but at the end of 40 was a final sign. Bono brought out a candlestick to a fan and lit a match in her memory. the candlelight stood there while the house lights were still out and Larry's pounding drums where the end of it. the candle died down 5 minutes later. when asked backstage. Bono said that Whitney Houston was there in spirit for them. U2 leave Newark without any regrets to accepting the offer from Whitney Houston's daughter.
