1. My ipod video, brand new, i think its fifth gen or something, randomly skips a song, around 1:18 or 2:26. Its happened on many file types, apple lossless, aac, and mp3. Some ipod help site says it is due to some weird tagging, but there was no program to undo it. Help?
  2. You can remove tags using Foobar 2000 under the file properties.

However i sounds a little bit strange. Tags shouldnt be the cause of this. Only if there is some kind of file corruption

I'll try foobar. It's hard to tell if it works though, because the skips are inconsistent. I have malwarebytes anti-malware, and that is an amazing anti-virus, so I don't think there is corruption. Thanks for the help

Do you purchase all of your music? Like iTunes, CD rip, etc.?

(Or is it bootlegs from this site that usually have the problem?)

I would be restoring it in iTunes, and if the same thing happens, take it back to wherever you got it from and get it replaced.

It wouldn't be a virus or malware, because the skips may well be in the actual files themselves when they've been ripped or encoded.
  6. I can go back and hear the song all the way through after It skips. It happens on downloaded tracks and direct rips
  7. It just happened at 1:27 on MOS.

Maybe you should try them in a different program to make sure that it's not the files.
  9. Skipped at idioteque at 3:13. I don't think it is a software problem, I have ripped the cd's with itunes. Maybe I will re-install it tomorrow, but will that change the software on my ipod also? Do I have to restore it to factory settings

I'd try ripping them with Foobar.

Re-installing iTunes won't change the software on your iPod, only the software on your computer. Try restoring in iTunes or from FelixBruns site.

Now that you mention both downloaded and CD rips, that could mean either: a) the iPod needs to be restored, or b) the hard drive is dying and you need to return the iPod. As an aside, what type of iPod is it? Does it have a split-screen menu or just text links to everything?

If it's a classic (split-screen), a lot of people were (and are) having your problem and either restoring or returning it may or may not work. If it's a 5.5G or earlier (text-link menus), then chances are the hard drive is dying, and needs exchanging as soon as possible - which Apple will do in the first year of ownership, granted you have a receipt - and they can reproduce the problem.

Are there loud sounds sometimes coming from the iPod or crunching sounds?

I can hear the hard disk spinning, like when I go into cover art or play a vid.
Its a new model, with split screen. I have tested the battery life before, and it came to be around 23.5 hours of music with the backlight off. Is that normal?
I have tried restoring it, that didn't do anything.
I'll try foobar on my brand-new nloth cd, so when I have it on repeat all day I can see if it still skips.
    Thanks for the help
  12. It just happened from a cd from foobar- Maybe the hard disk is faulty
