1. Have you ever wondered why U2 never plays "And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage" part when playing New Year's Day at concerts?
  2. A few reasons which I can think of:
    a) It would make the song too long.
    b) This piece of the song doesn't work live.
    c) The lyrics are not relevant.

I think a makes the most sense, U2 often plays single versions of songs live because they're most of the time shorter.
  3. I asked exactly for the same about two months ago... This is my favourite part of the song, and they cut it...

Exactly! Thats a great addition to the song and itäs a shame they cut it off live. I think that NYD live is rather boring, some of the early, fast and energetic performances were great but nowadays i consider it a live-show-filler. The album version is magic though.

Yeah, U2 cuts the first verse of Bad in half. I don't think they've sang, "If I could throw this lifeless line to the wind..." since Lovetown. They've just skipped to "through myself, set your spirit free" ever since ZooTV.

1980s: Bad was routinely 8 minutes long, once 16!
1990s: Bad was more like 7 - 7.5 minutes... and GONE in PopMart mostly.
2000s: Bad is now 6 minutes (Saitama III)? WTF!?!
  6. The best example for me is A Sort of Homecoming but I think the reason is he forgets lyrics, the Wide Awake in America version would be far better with all the complete lyrics...

Well, the Australian Mix of ASOH has the complete lyrics...

New Jersey 18th May 2005 had a 9 minute version which is impressive and the awesome Chicago version with the whole of The First Time is achingly brilliand (and 9-10 minutes long)

No. Wrong. It is simply good.
Achingly brilliant are the versions of Dublin 1986-05-17 Dublin, or 1985-04-15 East Rutherford, or 1987-04-29 Chicago. THAT is achingly brilliant...

    I have it and the

"The city walls are all come down
The dust, a smoke screen all around
Faces ploughed like fields that once
    Gave no resistance"

is missing from this version, and on the Wide Awake:

"And we live by the side of a road
On the side of a hill
    As the valley explode
    Dislocated, suffocated
The land grows weary of its own"

Each have a half of the verse, so you can do some edits and mix with Soundforge the Wide Awake in America and Australian UF Version and you'll have a complete version

in fact I have the mix done since 2 months ago and I listen to it every evening...

By the way, Remy, if I do a Personal Remix with official material is it legal to post it here?
  12. I can send it if Remy is ok

Edit: Anyway, the full mix is not released by the group, it's like a fan remix so i think it's ok (if its not, Remy advertise me and i'll delete the link)

    Here :http://www.megaupload.com/fr/?d=M6INKQSG

Personally, i'd like they release that one (but that why editing softwares exist )
