Performance

Wow....just, wow. I can't even believe that Bono was having problems with his voice on songs like "The Unforgettable Fire", and yet in the very same song (and others like "Running to Stand Still" and "40") his voice is pure, soulful, and gorgeous to listen to. Every other member is very much in touch with the music, and they play together great tonight.

Setlist is even, except for a tiny rough patch caused by an extra long cover of "Southern Man" followed by another super long version of "Sunday Bloody Sunday", but it recovers quickly.

Sound

Really, truly fantastic for this era. One of the better sounding JT boots out there, I believe, that's not pro-recorded in any way. Helps this show to shine.

Audience

Fantastic. Great before, during, and after each performance. Bono pulls what seems to be multiple people up during "Southern Man" to see if they can play the guitar, noting, "We've found people in Chicago who could play my guitar, before!", and I think he also dances with a girl onstage during "Bad". Great crowd, they are essential to this show.

Overall

4.5 all the way down makes this an easy rate. I've heard better Joshua Tree performances- one of which was actually at this very venue, on the first leg- but there is literally almost NOTHING wrong with this show. There is a lot of energetic flow and powerful vocal performances from Bono, and I think Larry and Adam sound great on this one, something that isn't always a priority in bootleg recordings. The crispness of the sound and the phenomenal performances make this first night of a 3-night stay worth listening to.

Highlights:

-Where the Streets Have No Name (speechless)
-In God's Country
-Running to Stand Still
-40
