1983-02-26 - Dundee, Scotland - Caird Hall

setlist

Performance notes: First performances of Two Hearts Beat As One, Seconds, Party Girl, and 40, and the last performance of Fire. Only time Like A Song is played. Amusingly, after Party Girl, Bono states that it was the song's "first, and probably last" performance - it has gone on to become U2's most performed b-side, with almost 200 performances to its name.

Performance

Pretty awesome, not gonna lie. There's almost nothing about the performance to dislike. I have no idea what type of venue they were in, other than it was a hall, but they were really absorbing some energy there, and getting along very well with the crowd. Songs all sound fantastic, few in particular (which I'll list in the highlights)

Sound

Standard 3 star. Nothing spectacular. Doesn't detract from the listening experience at all, but doesn't add a lot in terms of clarity. Probably wouldn't steer anyone clear away from this show.
Recording: "02/26/1983 - Dundee" - 3.5 stars

Audience

Sometimes hard to hear during songs, singing along and all that, but in between they are loud and responsive. I like the mix, but would rather hear them singing along more with the big crowd parts.

Overall

Rated high, because I really enjoyed this early show. Sometimes the early ones (pre-TUF, in my opinion) really just don't connect with me, and I can't feel them. This one was a spectacular listen, though- one I can see myself revisiting when I feel like hitting up a familiar early show.

Highlights:
-Party Girl!!! "That was the first time that song has ever been performed! [under his breath] And probably the last..." Oh, Bono...little did you know...
-New Years Day was very fresh
-Gloria/Brick/Day Without Me was pulled off well
-Only time "Like a Song" has ever been performed

So much to enjoy about this show, it would be a shame for you to not hear it. Download it!!!!
