Performance notes: U2 make their first ever appearance at the Glastonbury Festival, headlining Friday night 2011. They were originally one of 2010's headliners but had to pull out in May 2010 due to Bono's back surgery. Bad is played for just the second time in 2011; Out Of Control for just the third time in 2011. When performed, Moment Of Surrender is normally last in the set - this is just the second time it appears in a spot other than the closer, following U2's appearance on Saturday Night Live on 2009-09-26. The only three songs in the set which are not singles are Until The End Of The World, Bad, and Moment Of Surrender. An archive of tweets for this show can be found here.

Performance

U2 at Glastonbury, the band finally make it to the great festival.Very solid show. The band sound a bit off at the start (IMO).The Fly and Mysterious Ways have small flubs (Edge),but things settle down nicely at the start of One.I really like the setlist with One and Steets early on.My only change,I would have dropped Boots (its just an awful tune) and would have preferred to hear Glastonbury and/or Mercy. It is a bit odd, they did not play the song they wrote for this festival. The title track from No Line would have fit as well.ISHFWILF is beautiful.Stay,Bad Pride and OOC are the highlights.

Sound

Its a broadcast, sound is great. The audio could use a boost (bit low),other than that its perfect.

Audience

Glastonbury's crowds parcipation is always fantastic.I had the privilege of attending Glastonbury in 2003,I loved it.

Overall

The fact the band went out of there way, to perform at this festival, in the middle of their North American Tour, speaks volumes to me.They wanted so bad to succeed here, and IMO, they did.Opening the show, with 5 tracks off AB is the way to go.Love it.The band are a bit tired, but pull it off.Stay is a song that I have always loved (it was played at my wedding in 1993).Beautiful version here.Sends chills up my spine, love it.BD has the great intro.SBS,Bad,Pride,WOWY in a row, very nice.Ending the show with Out Of Control was the I cant believe it (Holy Sh!t) moment.MOS is a decent song, but its not strong enough to end EVERY show.U2 have so many classic songs to end their shows with,One,WOWY,40 or AIWIY would fit the bill better,IMO.Overall...U2 at Glastonbury 2011 = Great show.....
