torrent details

See my comments below, but again, to repeat, if someone has a better and known lineage version of this show, please share! In light of all the masters and clones being uploaded here lately, I wasn't sure whether to upload this, but thought I would since no one has mentioned it really, and my queries revealed no one that had anything better. So, I am hoping that if someone does have a definite better version of this show they can post it here, but if not this is pretty good.

I went through 2 copies of this set actually to make sure I had a flaw-free copy to share here, and I think I got it (needless to say, I am a little sick of this show at this point!). The frequency analysis looks fine, though I can't tell if this is from an LP recording. I did notice a spike at around 15, whatever that means, but no dropoffs or anything to suggest lossiness.

Comments:

As for quality, there seems to be a very little background hiss, which probably means there is some kind of analog transfer, but overall this is a pretty nice recording (must be DAT sourced) that sounds similar to the 6/4/93 posted by datfly recently. It is overall weak on the low frequencies, yielding a rather thin sound, but if you EQ the mid-low frequencies, it sounds better and has more oomph. So I would say this is some very low gen analog transfer, but sounds very good. The audience can be heard at times, but never enough to detract from the show. Only flaws I noticed were "Pride" fading in late (due to a tape flip no doubt) and some of the time from the confessionals to the encore intro missing. Otherwise all there. A very nice find, and a great show at a great period in the Zooropa tour.

As for the show: For the first several songs, you know what to expect if you've heard any show from this period. Following "New Year's Day," however, U2 played a new song, "Stay, Far Away, So Close!," this being the first-ever performance, and a good one at that. According to someone with a video of that show, the song (not having yet moved to the B-Stage) was played on the main stage and with the Edge on electric instead of acoustic guitar (not a big difference, but interesting), with Bono of course playing his part as well. It also seems like Edge sang backup vocals during some of the verses (instead of just the chorus), which I guess he stopped doing afterwards. The Sarajevo uplink was a powerful moment, with a fireman talking to his fiance in the audience, and the audience about the problems there. Bono dedicated "Bad" to this man's fiance. The rest of the show was very good as always, with MacPhisto quoting the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil" during "Desire" and singing a bit of ABBA's "Money, Money, Money" (it is Sweden, after all) before a phone call to someone I haven't heard of (Ian Backmeister?). Bono carries on a conversation (kind of flirty) with the woman who answers, and talks through the intro to "Ultra Violet (Light My Way)." With or Without You also still featured the extra verse (I think this was the last night in fact, other than Cardiff). Interestingly, Bono also sang the first few lines of "Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car" in the middle of "When Love Comes to Town" as he did on a few other occassions.

A great show, and until someone gives us something better, enjoy!

A random guy in the audience has the line of the night: "Numb!"
