What do you think is Edge's best guitar?

I go for the Fender Stratocaster used on the Lovetown tour. The one with the artwork of the Skeleton with with a hat on.

The Fender you mentioned is a 1988 Fender "Eric Clapton" model Stratocaster. He did use the painted one SOME during the Love Town tour but used a Yellow Clapton more often. (See: Love Town documentary). He also used a Torino Red Clapton Strat. At the time, he seemed to be looking for something to replace "Blackie 1" and some of the other `70's era black and white Strats.

I think that for many, the Gibson Explorer SCREAMS "The Edge". I own one and can tell you... plug it in and there is 'that' sound; that "I Will Follow", "Out of Control", "Beautiful Day", "Miracle Drug" sound. It's got more treble/top end than your usual Gibson and a guitar with humbucker pickups.

That said, The Edge has two white Les Paul Customs (both have faded to cream) that he's used TONS since the making of Achtung Baby. Seems that he has used these tons over the past 16 years. One has gold knobs (a `75, I think) and one with black knobs.

He's had a few nice vintage Rickenbacker 330/12 strings too. The original 1967 died in the Hanover Quay studio fllod that happened when U2 were in the U.S. playing the Super Bowl. All of the band lost LOTS of gear. Notice that Adam was using many bass guitars not previously seen? Edge was using lots of new stuff too. He got the mapleglo 330/12 to use in 'E flat' for Mysterious Ways and a 1965 Fireglo finish Ric 33/12 to keep in 'standard E' to play "Sometimes You Can't Make It...". There is a black 330/12 under the stage as a backup. I saw that one being tested in Glendale, AZ.

Lest we forget the "Elevation" used 1966 Gibson SG? Beautiful guitar with lovely tone. He's a 1966 Pelham blue as a backup.

I LOVE the blue Tele that he was using for Vertigo during the promo shows. But he later opted for the blonde `66 Tele. Wonder why?

Lots and lots of guitar goodness! For more information on Edge's gutiar and gear, I've a little fan site... it is not 100% complete but it has a lot of information that I've collected from books, magazines, talking with Dallas some...

Great reply!, and a great website as well, somebody has been doing their homework. I know what you mean about "that Sound" that the explorer makes.

I love the stratocasters, I think that because they have the single coil pick ups they have a greater tone range and you have more subtlety to work with. The Humbuckers of the Gibsons do give more sustain though and can give a more powerful output great for I will Follow.

hey,
i would say that personally the best guitar is the Gibson White Custom as seen on Zoo TV Sydney, the one he uses to play Zoo Station. For me, that is the way to go, guitar wise.

Is the SG he uses in Elevation an Angus Young Signature? i think it is

He also used that one in the first legs of Zoo TV to play The Fly. But I go for the red Vertigo with a black spiral over and no visible (if any) controls.

It's not an Angus edition, it's a 1966 original (identical to what George Harrison used in Paperback writer [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmF7wb2pIiM] and Rain [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guuv-DEg62k] videos) that Dallas Schoo originally had and loved, and Edge bought from him for a sizeable amount of money for the ATYCLB sessions. It has only been used for Elevation, although Edge usd it to play along to a backing tape of Beautiful Day on a TOTP appearence on 27th Sept '00 at the Clarence Hotel

Superb you really know your stuff. Ironic that when U2 was in New Orleans there was extensive flooding back gome.

Also for a really great equipment library theres some link i found on Edge's profile on Wikipedia
