No, no, no, that's not what I meant. I love the LP. I just don't like him using it on One. The guitar that he played One on during Zoo TV and PopMart (a Gretsch, isn't it?) sounded much better for that song.
Ah I get you. I like him using the LP, but I have to say I prefer the Gretsch Country Gent he used on PopMart. The semi-hollow Gibson thing he used on ZooTV lacked power, for me.
I see that some people want BTBS out of the setlist....Hell no! It's probably one of their best songs ever! It has a huge political message and the solo's just awesome! I know that the Vertigo-versions weren't really good, but they change it every tour! Maybe it really rocks this tour!
And to get back OT... NYD should go...It's a great song, but it isn't that awesome, that it should be played every tour...
I'd prefer NYD to BTBS lol...but that's just me. NYD is timeless whereas BTBS is peaks and troughs. This might not make sense to some of you, but I know what I mean lol. And hell, do we really want political messages in EVERY song?

That would be the JT photo shoot - Anton couldn't pronounce the J, so referred to it as the Yoshua Tree.
...they were landmarks for U2 years ago, they can't/shouldnt be drop out U2 would not be U2 without Pride, SBS, NYD, WOWY... That are the songs that made them big (and I'm not saying these are the best song, only the most famous and known ones)...
I agree, but to be fair they are a band who claim to be looking forward all the time . I wouldn't want to see any song dropped completely, but a lot of songs should be used with much more economy to make way for new songs to come to the fore on the live stage
amen. The problem is the band has to try and appeal to casual fans, and as good as Bad or Ultraviolet, or even The Fly are, those aren't songs that reach the non-fans. I'm guilty of it. And let me ask you, how many of you got into U2 by listening to Kite or Please? The point I'm trying to make is that U2 has to try and appeal to everyone, and those songs don't really draw fans in. But I think just like most bands, once you become a fan of them you learn that their "hits" aren't their best songs. Anyway, we're not all going to be happy, but I think they could throw a bone to us hardcore fans, more often.
Not wanting to be completely awkward, but the first U2 song I heard (and more importantly, was drawn in by) was MLK lol, so don't give me that crap about not being drawn in by less well known songs
How about retiring Elevation. It has been prominently featured on the last 2 tours, it bores the hell out of me. Replace it with Kite or Walk On or both.
Good on its debut tour, not so good on the last one - again, use very sparingly, perhaps as an encore opener every now and then.
there live songs evolve from tour to tour (aka. The Fly and Zoo Station on Vertigo Tour) so i'm sure if they do end up playing these old classics they'll find a way to change them up or enhance them in some way

God no. Elevation tour was fine, but best BTBS formats were ZooTV/PopMart. JT and LT were good, but the only good thing about Elevation was the way in which Edge's solo really tore the place apart. Vertigo was pretty drab apart from the solos again, but I loved the fact that Edge rarely ever played the same solo twice, there was usually always something different about it. However, for me the verses need a guitar riff to counter Bono's vocals á la ZooTV/PopMart, otherwise it's just a bit stale for me. Just palm-muting the strings to a bit of Wah only has so much appeal...
I agree that the ZOO/POPMart ones were awsome, but the version on the Boston DVD is really powerful. However, the ZOO/POPMart ones are very close behind
why not create a setlist a la Springsteen: 30 songs (or 25 as you like it) with a few 'structural' songs, like SBS, BTBS and the like, and also 4 or 5 new songs. Rest of the setlist can be filled in per evening, depending of the 'mood' of the band as well as requests from the crowd or in promptu surprises.
That way U2 proves to be probably the best live band in the world, and READ MY LIPS , tons of new fans will be attracted, old fans will be renewed in their love for the band, and so is the band itself.
