After some discussion over in the New Album thread, I said I would start an Album Outtakes Thread, listing demos, working titles and unreleased tracks from each session., that are spoken of in various official articles and by the band themselves from off moments.

If anyone wants to add any songs to the list they're more than welcome. Please check first whether the titles you're adding are fake, rehearsals / soundchecks and whatever else before you submit, otherwise this list is not going to be a true list (unless you can provide a source which is even better).

Thanks to all who have helped out in this thread, and if anyone has any more, go for it, or even information (or snippets of a song) they'd like to share and expand the list, please help out.

(1) The original demo of Beautiful Day. Always was released along with Big Girls Are Best and five other unreleased songs on the 7EP in 2002.

(2) Later released as part of the Unreleased and Rare digital compilation. Bono describes Levitate as a direction the album could have gone.

(3) Busy Bee was meant to have been released on one of the Stuck In A Moment singles in 2000, but never happened. There is still talk of a digital release in a few years time, which will include the song and other outtakes from various sessions.

(4) Good Morning and Novelty Act were both seen on a whiteboard from a photo taken during the sessions.

(5) Bulldozer is described by Larry as one of his favourite songs from the entire recording sessions. When he was asked about the song by an interviewer, he said U2 would like to finish the song one day and Bono nodded. A fan later asked if it was the same song as Elevation, but Larry's reply was somewhere along the lines of ''Nope, different''.

(6) Referred to by Eno as Boomerang III.

(7) In the Jaunary 2002 issue of Spin Magazine, Bono is asked about whether he's been writing while they've been touring for Elevation. He mentions four songs that will be released; Electrical Storm, A Man's A Man for Martin Scorsese's upcoming film Gangs of New York, One Step Closer To Knowing and You Can't Give Your Heart Away.

(3) Firefly was the original demo of City of Blinding Lights. Skyhawk was the second version of that song, but scheduled for the Spiderman and later cancelled.

(4) Mercy was one of the longest songs produced during the entire sessions, and is described by Blender Magazine as 'a six-and-a-half-minute outpouring of U2 at its most uninhibitedly U2-ish'. It was cut from the final album release, and the lyrics can be found in the special edition hardcover book.

(5) The original demo of Vertigo, and one described by Bono as 'the mother of all rock tunes', and was said by many sources and publishing outlets to be on the final How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.

(6) Bono tells Grammy Magazine about a new song called Lead Me In The Way I Should Go, which ''could be a big song''.

(7) Original demo recording of Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own.

==============================Bono's Briefcase============================

This section is written from photographs of Bono's stolen briefcase and the notes inside. The handwriting in those notes is not exactly the most legible, so I've taken a guess and put a ? next to the ones I'm not sure of. These are all demos and working titles from 1976 - 1981, but their exact years are unknown at this point.

If I Could Live My Life Again (1)

(1) Appears as part of the extra material from the book Bono In Conversation with Michka Assayas. In the book, Bono tells Michka that it was inspired by the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borge and had started writing the song in December of 2005.

(2) Bono told Reuters Online that Stand Up was inspired by the Stand Up and Take Action campaign, which took place on October 17 - 19, and that "it's not a 'let's hold hands and the world is a better place sort of song. It's more kick down the door of your own hypocrisy".

(3) Edge and Bono are interviewed by USA Today's Anthony Breznican at Sundance. Bono interrupts the interview, at which point he finds a CD and plays it, with what Breznican describes as 'rough, weaving between brutal guitar blasts underscoring the mellow title refrain'. Edge tells Breznincan that his guitar technician got the distortion box from a recommendation by former Secret Machines guitarist Ben Curtis.

(4) Described by Edge as ''Eddie Cochran with barbershop harmonies'' when speaking to Q Magazine, and makes use of acoustic guitar overdubs. The original mix of this song has been completed as early as September of 2008. The song was also originally reported by many media outlets, particularly The Sunday Times, to be called Sexy Boots.

(5) An eight-minute-long track, to which Brian Eno says told fans outside Hanover Quay Studios in early June 2008 it is ''the best thing'' he's recorded with U2.

Could you make clearer what exactly are you intending to collect here? Working titles, alternate versions, unreleased tracks, true demo's or a mixture of all of this, as the actual list suggests...?

Demos, working titles, alternate versions and unreleased songs. Only a list - I don't want the actual files themselves. So really, sort of a mixture of things.

I'm not interested in rehearsals or things like that, hence it would be called "Soundchecks and Rehearsals". What I am trying to find as well, was a topic which had some Brian Eno notes in it and a list of demos not here - someone posted it but I can't remember who.

Okay, you could start from adding the titles on the Salome Outtakes for AB and the three leftovers from Zooropa then.
Could you tell me something about the Pop era stuff? I know about Hymn to the Universe, MFRR”, Supercity Mania and Big Girls are Best. But the rest doesn't ring any bell at the moment.

damn, I've never even heard of 90% of the songs listed lol

I knew that list from U2station as txt file, but I thought, you might know what these are/became, like Supercity Mania became Miami, Scott Walker (is that one in the list?) became COBL, ...

Never knew about Scott Walker before - added to the Pop section. What else is in the txt file - maybe we can dig something out from there.

I've left Love and Peace with an * - I'm not sure whether it was an ATYCLB track. I would have thought and sure I read Pop, but open to further sourcing.

Anyone know what was the working title of "Stay"?

Edit: Got it - Sinatra. Now we need Boy / War / October / Unforgettable Fire - I don't think October or Unforgettable Fire are gonna have a lot of tracks.
