Ok. . The Point Depot in Dublin has been knocked down and Is being refurbed and turned into a 13,000 seater music venue (the first of it's kind in Europe to be built as a specific music venue). Interestingly, the venue is to be promoted and named as 'The O2' (ala London) as part of a joint venture between O2 and the Live Nation concert promotion company who have just recently signed U2 to their portfolio. The new Point Depot is due to finish this coming December so is it possible that we may say U2 opening the new venue or maybe even playing the venue next year, 20 years after the infamous 1989 gigs?

2 things are for certain. . . I hope the hell that this is true and. . . .i'll be there if it is

lucky bastard(s) i just pulled a Bono quote from one of the Depot shows without intending too haha

Prince played 21 in London. . . I could see a U2 residency in Dublin. Live Nation and O2 will release a list of artists expected to perform within the next week or 2

i'm not sure how I feel about residency gigs, its cool to do like a 5 or 6 night stay at say the Garden like U2 does in NY and Boston, but I don't know if i like the idea of a whole slew of concerts in one place, idk, i guess it's a new concept for me

The knocked down the Pt Depot? That is sorta sad. Cool that they might be building something else but it is a part of U2 history... the late Love Town shows plus the Rattle And Hum rehearsals and recordings.

I would have to try my damnedest to be there too...

they've kept the front part of the original buliding so it still looks the same from outside. They've just added a huge big building on to the back of it so it's still the old Point Depot really. . . .. just wayy bigger.

I can soo see this happening. I don't like massive residencys either but it's only really New York that U2 plays residencys in (skip Aussie Lovetown gigs) so why shouldn't another city have a go? This will be Irelands premiere music venue, it's a mile from U2's studio (literally), it's steeped in U2 history and U2 played smaller venues on the Elevation Tour. Some serious plausability there.

Sadly though . . . . .it is to be officially called the 'O2' and not 'The Point'. Bummer

...why "infamous" though?

The only thing infamous about it was the "infamous" speech. Still it didn't make the whole residency infamous...
