Everyone I know has at least heard of Bono. Most think he's a knob on some level. Nearly all begrudgingly accept that they have at least one U2 song they like, but find my 'passion' amusing!
I'd say 85% have heard of Edge; 10% of Larry and bugger all of Adam.
Well, I know several other 'fans' but each one of them isn't that die-hard like we here. Most teenages (I'm 19...) only care for hiphop and R&B or just the popular music. So when I start talking about U2, they now Beautiful Day and Vertigo, so they just happen to know the biggest commercial songs. I'm sure most of them never heard of The Fly etc.
my girlfriend didn't know Bono when we first met. I took a leap of faith in going forward with the relationship but things have came good and she knows all the lyrics to Love And Peace
I've never had that problemn, if for no other reason than everyone I know thinks he is a douche. (he does get on my nerves sometimes btw.)
lol that pretty much sums up my experience, and I agree with you about Bono...but just watching that new interview was great, it does get annoying sometimes when people always ask him about Africa and not U2, but i can't argue with him
Most of my friend know about U2 and Bono...cause I'm nagging about them all the time! xD
But once I talked to a girl that didn't have clue who George Michael or Bruce Springsteen were...
Alex!! amazing avatar!! love it!!
and getting back on topic...
it does happen every now and then... I have a co-worker who didn't! but well, poor guy only knows the name of 2 or 3 local bands.... asking him about foreign celebs or bands is way beyond his capacity.... LOL!!
Where I live (here in the UK) I have found more hate than love for U2. Probably every person I have spoken to, about U2, says that:
1. They are too old, and have no talent.
2. The Edge guitar playing sucks because he doesn't speed play, like other guitarists.
3. Bono is a hypocrite, and is only interested in increasing his ego.
4. They had one good album, which they ride their success on.
5. They should put their money where their mouth is.
These are just some of the things people make of point of saying to me. It grates on me like hell, and even if I try to put them straight, they are in denial.
I don't even talk to people anymore about my musical interests except on the internet, because people are so quick to criticise U2. I think the main problem is, the amount of media bs that is over here in the UK like in the newspaper such as The Sun - which a lot of people read. I mean, one person I spoke to thought Bono was a scientologist.
alot of ppl don't like Edges Guitare play because he has no insane solo ...
Have people besides all of us heard BTBS live?! Oh wait, crap... no . Only us. When I go to school, its like a bad twilight zone (music wise). I hate people

1. WAY False!!!

"I do enjoy being in a number one band, and I do enjoy the jet so I can get home while on tour, and I do enjoy hearing the record on the radio, so I don't want to come across as being down-in-the-mouth about being number one. I am on top of the world, it's just that something else is on top of me."
