Hello friends, anyone knows the story of the song Smile? I'm a old fan of the band and his music, but I discover this song now, thank!

the chorus sounds like Kite but obviously not related as one lyric is:

'Dont wanna see you Smile' and the other. . .
'Dont wanna see you cry'

I saw in an other blog that this song was released in Chile, but I didn't know anymore!

It is an outtake from the "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" album. It was first released on the (now deleted) iTunes THE COMPLETE U2 set as part of the "Unreleased And Rare" set.

It was later released as the bonus track on the iTunes Deluxe version of U218: The Singles.

Here's the lyrics...

"Smile"

Gravity, it’s not pulling me
I won’t be a picture with no sound
Decaying, I’m praying
You are my air
But I need the ground to kneel upon
And love can’t be us all
I don’t want to see you smile

I’m breaking it, taking it
I’m breaking slowly in my mind
I’m seeing it, free in it
I know love is in this soul of mine
It’s not in your eyes
I don’t want
I don’t want to see you smile

It started light-hearted
I won’t be easier like you said
I’m going, flowing
I’m leaving on the day
Of the day I will live again
You will live again
I don’t want to see you smile

God knows, He knows me
Knows me, lonely
You see, hear me, love
Say it again
You’re not blind
The smoke machine
Is yours, not mine
I don’t want to see you smile

I will live again
You will live again
I just don’t want to see you smile

I'd guess that if anything, it has to do with Ali... as has been mentioned in the past about "Mercy". I see them as possible being from the same cloth.

Thank for the info, I think that the song could be in the album, it's a good one, not minor, with a great orchestartion and Bono'voice is fine!

No, it's not about me...it might be about Ali Hewson tho ( )..., but Bono said in U2ByU2 that he doesn't want to make songs about her, or other people, as it's a cruel thing to do, it takes away the mystery about that person or something like that (he says it when talking about When I Look At The World...I think)
