I've read this on the news article and i think its a good point.
Listening to us on Setlists would be one thing.
But i think if U2 took a Modlife approach to their fans that would be amazing.
Adams blog was good, and in the 21st century bands are expected to do that much more.
McGuinness has been displaying a lot of arrogance and is putting U2's public image at risk.
So i think an up close and personal relationship would work better.
Official Live CD releases. Free or not I wouldn't care. Other than that, I don't think theres an awful lot else we could ask from them. U2 are just to mega and their fan base is just way to huge to try and get personal with.

I don't think thats necessarily true, i believe if they were to do blogs and talk over webcams that would make us all feel that little bit closer. Also if they spoke about what they're up to more, cause i'm dying for news!!!

I think all this webcam stuff is to new wave for U2. The boys like keeping themselves private and out of the limelight and we get enough promo stuff in and around new albums and tours (Day In The Life Of Edge eg). I do admit that it might be cool but i'll not miss getting a head melt from Bono over a web cam.
And whats the point of them telling us about the new album. The secrecy will be well worth it once you get that CD in your hands and rush home to listen to it not knowing what to expect.

Yeah, I think the build up of the new album gets every fan excited. I love the anticipation of a new album/tour. I remember running around the house getting HTDAAB. I don't think I would get that excited if I knew a lot about it. The cool thing about U2 is that the band always has something up their sleeve, you are never too sure about what you are going to get.

Reinstate the presale tickets for those that have kept up their memberships for 2 years +, thus eliminating a lot of the riff raff that signed on at the last minute to botch up the ticket process last time (read: scalpers!)

There is nothing wrong with their STILL playing New Years Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday... but maybe 'platoon' the songs with others... "Sunday Bloody Sunday" one night and "Please" the next... "Zoo Station" one night and "Zooropa" the next... you get the idea.
Allow me to play in the equipment storage room with all of The Edge's guitars and Larry's drums... Adam's bass guitars too!

Listen to what the real fans like for songs and play them - not snippeted, not shortened, the whole song and nothing less. Including Red Hill Mining Town, Acrobat, Unforgettable Fire, A Sort of Homecoming, Two Hearts Beat As One, Exit and some Pop stuff, even if you can't play them properly anymore.
A six-CD version of Unreleased and Rare, including the original version of U&R.
Piss off FanFire.com and use a decent merchandiser.

The online request thingy that R.E.M. did was pretty cool, that would be nice to see from U2, too. Also it would be cool if they would allow taping at their concerts.
That's all I could think of, don't need chats, blogs, news about what they are doing privately, lossy downloads or a presale...
I don't think there's a thing such as a real fan. I guess the most as a fan you can do is listen to their records, buy the show tickets, buy the merchandise and if you're really desperate sign up to U2.com or as we do, download the bootlegs. I didn't say all, some of us may just chat in the forums and watch the stuff via YouTube.
I couldn't be arsed reading a blog or downloading lossless. But a physical CD which everyone can buy, subscription or no subscription in their local record store can buy. An online request thing would be awesome, but I doubt we'd see it - could you imagine how many requests for songs they don't or can't play would be recieved.
As for the taping, I think the band allows it as does McGuiness (they haven't stopped it happening for the last 20+ years), but obviously the record label and organizations like the RIAA and IFPI don't like it - but if it's not being sold or marketed for 'uge amounts of cash, was never officially released and the copyright owners of the music (being U2, themselves, in this case) aren't being affected or losing millions of record and video sales, why not.
No reason that live shows (soundboards) couldn't be sold through 7digital, Amazon.com or iTunes for a few dollars per shows. Don't stop taping as we know it, but start selling their wares through those mediums as high-quality digital downloads (not DRM-protected, not low quality and in formats like 320Kbps MP3, FLAC / SHN or Apple Lossless), as bands like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have recently been doing, or even provide those soundboards for free.
