I always thought that photo belongs to the famous 1982-12-06 - London - Hammersmith Palais show and that's how I uploaded over 8 years back:

But there are mixed reports about it (and all the other similar photos).

Some say they were taken at 1983-03-16 - Newcastle (aka The Tube '83). Watching the video, it definitely fits:

So either it's London '82 or Newcastle '83, it's definitely not from the legendary Phoenix Park show
LOL... I was just trying to figure that out as Cesar got me thinking, and picture looks like a smaller venue. I guess its possible it is one of the SFX Center shows around Christmas of '82, or, as Sergio said, it wasn't Dublin at all. I never really gave it much thought until now.
  2. I think they're definitely from the Newcastle TV show, I've double checked all elements and they fit so well. Including the cameraman (the guy on clear shirt in front of Edge) from your poster

Sorry to take away the magic of it though, I feel a bit saddened now for some reason.

  4. FANTASTIC, MANY THANKS
  5. Lol. And Driving to Midnight MESS!

And since the background music to Bono's recital is NYD, I have my doubts about the 1979 dating too...

The Midnight Mass recording was made in 1984 or 1985, I believe
  7. I believe you are correct. I bought this in NYC in '86, so it had to be sometime between '83 and '85...
  8. December 11, 1984 - There you have it.

"Bill Cochran, today a successful audio producer and voiceover artist whom you've probably heard on radio or TV. At the time, he was working for Chicago's WXRT-FM and came up with an idea to produce a radio special featuring holiday messages from the artists that WXRT played. WXRT Program Director Norm Winer gave the green light to Cochran's idea, and a program called The Holiday Extravaganza was born. It premiered on WXRT in 1983 and continued annually for many years.

A year later, Winer -- who counted former Principle Management Director Ellen Darst as a friend -- arranged a recording session with Bono. But it fell on Cochran's shoulders, as the producer, to come up with something for Bono to say. Cochran headed to U2's hotel to record Bono before the band's gig later that night at the Aragon Ballroom. It was Dec. 11, 1984."
