Go for it, although I'll no doubt envy you...Ridgewood make decent guitars but they're copies for a reason lol...(although when I run my electro-acoustic through a new Zoom FX pedal I got for Xmas - after having pissed about enough to find a nice combination of CryWah, delay and overdrive - it does sound vaguely like Edge's Variax Line 6 thingy he uses for The Fly on Vertigo shows!
all hail the old brigade , those of us that worshiped the ground that U2 treked across before the internet. those of us who when they were on tour couldn't simply log on to find a decent boot. those of us that still think a 12'' single is actually 12'' and pressed on vinyl. those of us whose only outlet to talk about U2 shows was when we were standing in line to buy tickets , yes can you believe we stood in line for tickets in the cold ,wind , rain, heat , whatever it was it didn't matter, we were there waitng. Bootlegs were few and far between,but when you found a store that had a few, no matter what the cost you bought them all ,took them home and played the absolute hell out of them . no matter what the sound quality was. We remember October and the critics be dammed , but it was all we had we listened and we loved it and we still do . we can recall the very first time we hears Bono exclaim "There has been a lot of talk about this next song lately very to much talk . this song is NOT a rebel song ,...this song is sunday bloody sunday. Yes do you remember it all you old fogies out there. we have what a lot of these guys don't memories apon memories , I could go on and on and on "am I buggin you ... Don't mean to bug you..ok edge play the blues.. so stand up and let your voices be heard tell your tales and let these kids in on what it was like all those years ago. there are "kids" on this site That I have the utmost respect and admiration for , and they havent even seen a show Utube and dvds that is there live experience. DIEHARDS thats what we are . wev'e lived through it all and still are here , even after POP . long live you all and long live U2

1.The first play of a new single on the radio (I remember where & when etc.)
eg Pride,With Or Without You,Desire,The Fly,Numb,Discotheque
2.Taping Interviews / Shows of the radio
eg. New Year Point Depot,RDS Dublin 93,Sarajevo
3.As you say,going to Record Fairs and buying bootlegs (I was out of work for a spell in 1993,but still felt compelled to buy a bootleg for £25 GBP) Paris 1992 BTW
4.Watching Music TV in the early days to see if they would make an appearance
eg The Tube,Old Grey Whistle Test
5.Staying in New Years Eve to watch The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1987,'cos they showed "Outside It's America" at the stroke of midnight
6.Pleading with the guy behind the counter in HMV Liverpool to change the date of my Joshua Tree ticket for the following day,because I couldn't go (God that still hurts)
7.Buying "Zooropa" 2 days early than it's release date because Penny Lane records were giving away a free 12" Single of "......Wild Horses"
8.And to this day,taking the day off work to go and buy the new album.Started with The Joshua Tree and I will not stop doing it.The first play of an album in "those days" were magical.The Internet has deprived me of that,but it is still a buzz when you listen to any new material for "The First Time"
These are just a few things that spring to mind,and yes all pre Internet.But I wouldn't have missed any of it for the world,trust me.Those a just a few of my personal memories,and I'm very sure our younger generation will have plenty of their own pretty soon.Let's hope the "kids" who post here and haven't been to a show,get the same excitment as me and anyone else who's had the priviledge to see 'em live,come back and tell us and shout it from the rooftops..........."Live Is Where We Live".

You might have said it better than I did , man that is exactly where I am coming from I once drove 2 hrs to pay $40.00 for a boot of the first show of zoo tv. stood in line for midnight sales of albums , even bought Achtung 1 day before it was released in the U.S., and then proceeded to run through the steets of Oberlin, OH telling anyone that would listen that I got it first and where to get there copy.
I also will proclaim my love and alligience to this site for generating the same exitement for me when I found it. boots and boots and more boots , spanning the whole career , shows that I was at , YES, now the memory of a show will always be with me, in the palm of my hand, thanks to all of you here.
