Hmmmm.....the exact opposite of the news we heard out of HQ yesterday. Not quite sure what to make of this one. Although, you could make the argument that Edge's quote isn't directly saying that they're starting over 100%.....

It isn't April Fool's Day again, is it?

it may be a ploy just to get everyone confused?

I don't know, U2 doesn't strike me as the kind of band that would put a fake rumor out there....not these days, at least. Probably (and hopefully!) a misunderstanding on someone's part.

This is one awesome video. It must be one of the new songs.

It in a way is disasterous for us U2 fans. It could be true, it could be a fake/rumour. Here's my take:

It seems U2 wanted to originally make an album and not have a goal intended except to finish a record. They could release whatever they have as an EP, but for the matter of keeping them look good, they won't. It also looks that the Edge didn't like what was up, and wants the band to actually concentrate on the music, write songs, and put out a record. I don't blame him. So far, if this is true, the Edge is right. To him it must seem U2 almost put out a weak record, their first in their career.

I guess I interpreted it a bit differently. Edge is basically saying things that we've known all along, that the entire band has been saying for months. It's just that last line about how they're "getting serious" that's a little odd. Not sure what to make of that one, but I don't buy that they're starting over.

this to me sounds like a reporter with little knowledge of U2 taking Edge's words and applying his own story to it. Some people shouldn't be reporters

Couldn't agree more.

I don't know whether to believe they're starting again or not. But they were getting the radio edits and the videos follow usually a few months afterwards.

This sounds like a reporter tripping through his wires, but if it's anything like the recording of Streets, Brian Eno wasn't happy with the tapes and tried to destroy them, forcing the band to start again, which wouldn't be great...but how do we know what it's gonna sound like? Simple...we don't.

Maybe the songs (or even a select few) weren't very good and the reporter is right.

Guitarist The Edge reveals band members have mostly messed around in the studio - and they have now decided to get stuck in and finish the record.

That quote leads me to believe they have been messing around and are going to, with the seven months left to November, re-record the songs.

It doesn't take long to create the record (usually, that's just going in and recording the vocals and backing tracks). But, it does take a long time to come up with concepts and ideas and thoughts to arrange the songs and do whatever else like editing and mastering of said record. Now should be the time they're putting titles down, giving advance copies to promoters...not redoing the whole lot.

Dunno what to think of it...I don't believe they would throw away a year's work...doesn't make any sense to me. If these songs were weak, they should've know that much earlier.
