1. Where do you all imagine the next album going?
It has Rick Rubin as a producer so my guess is that the album will not be a supermassive epic in sound , but then again, Bono has said that in the next album the band are working the opposite of every way they have worked before, with Rubin working to bring their true selves through the music.
So we could be looking at something very new, or for all JT addicts a return to the old sound

The good news is, Bono has told us that Mercy is going to stay. SO even if everything else goes to complete shit we'll still have the best U2 song in ages
  2. Mercy will be on the new album? I hadn't heard that. If so that's wonderful.

But in another way, keeping as a "secret" song that the general public doesn't really know about is cool too.
  3. I haven't heard anything about the track list of the new album...i would be a pity to have mercy on it! we already know that song
  4. I don't believe a word of Bono, especially not about upcoming songs.

I'm 100% sure Mercy is not gonna be on the new album, Window In The Skies was the new Mercy with the love-theme.
  5. I'll be happy as long as they do songs that sounds like Vertigo and Elevation, that kind of rock sound!!
  6. No, Mercy has to be on it. It's the best work tey've ever done and Bono knows it.

Bono "I think it really is the best U2 song".

Its Not going anywhere except the new album.

It'll be on it, i can FEEL IT!!!!

WITS is the new Mercy, they won't write the same song twice.
  8. Yes, because U2 never write songs about love, or with love in the lyrics

I'm pretty positive it's gonna be there. It is an utter travesty if that songs is never brought to the world.

It could have turned the worst album since October into something special, but they layed it off because it wouldn't fit.

Besides the lyrics, weren't finished, and neither was the music.
And Ieing a fan of Rick Rubins work, know he knows a good song when he hears one, and without doubt, he will rescue Mercy as Gavin Friday rescued With Or Without You. No Doubt.

It would be pretty lame to me if they gonna release a song on an album that's already wandering for years on the internet, U2 want new stuff. The themes of WITS and Mercy are pretty much the same, the occuring love theme and the power of love, U2 has no other song that's so about love than WITS in their collection. Sure, they wrote hundreds of love songs but not so obvious as WITS.

That won't say I disagree with you on Mercy itself as a song, it's a great song with great lyrics.

  10. Mercy is TOO good not be released officially.

We can only cross our fingers for that. The version we have heard for more than two years now is in fact not a finished version at all.

There are a lot of good unreleased U2 songs unfortunately. And DVD's too, Milan DVD would also be too good, but they won't release the whole thing.
  12. I doubt Mercy is going to be put on a new album of new studio material. Bono was quoted as saying "Its one of our best B sides". That was his opnion on it and its why they took it off of Bomb. Its a good song, I dont think it deserves all the hype alot of fans put on it though.

Regarding Rubin, has it been officially announced he is producing the next album? I have not seen that anywhere. Just because he did the Abbey Road sessions with them does not mean he is automatically producing the next album. Edge was quoted as saying they were just seeing how they worked with him and the sessions had no purpose other than to record Saints (and obviously Window). I'm not saying he wont, but I think alot of people are just assuming something that has never been said.

I just hope they dont rush on the next album. I know everyone wants a new one NOW. But I dont think U2 works well when they rush something out. Zooropa is my least favorite album because it sounds unfinished to me. POP is similiar although I think its a good album, could have been fantastic if they would have had the time to finish it properly like they wanted.
