Can I just point out that the Vertigo versions of Pride are in a lower key than, e.g. ZooTV? It would be more impressive if they took Pride back to Bb...don't get me wrong, I love Bono's singing - but I think people get a bit carried away with his voice - yes it's getting back to what it once was, but he'll never have the clarity of tone that he had Lovetown/ZooTV
His voice on Uf was amazing, when he sings ASOH you realy hear that he has learned how to use his voice. He expermented alot with it. On the Amnesty his voice was very good.
On Jt tour he had lost a bit, he had to strain his voice alot to sing the Wide Awake part on Bad, but he didnt manage to hit the high C.
On Lovetown his voice went more deep, but also a bit hoarse sound in the background of his voice came in. He gave his all on that tour. The story behind the soundboard recordings of the Dublin shows was that Bono recorded them for a doctor for use to analize his singing. After the doctor had listen to it he gave Bono a warning that if he contiunie to sing like that he would destroy his voice.
On ZooTV you could realy hear that his voice had taken damage by all the screaming and straining in the 80's and specialy LT tour. I think alot of people overrate his voice on ZooTV tour. Sure his falsetto was amazing, but he couldnt sing ISHFWILF that good any more. The same with BAD, when he tried to hit the Wide Awake part he had to strain his voice or use the falsetto. He didnt hit the High C.
In 94,95 and 96 his voice was still good but you could hear that his voice was a bit shaky and the Popmart, well his voice wasnt the best. In 98 Bono did a throat surgey, after a surgey it takes years for the voice to get better. In 98 when Bono recorded Slide Away with Michael H. you realy could hear that it was one of his weakest voice ever. On ATYCLB his voice was almsot the same a bit better but not that strong. On Elevation tour his voice went better for each day.
The first song to show that Bono's voice was on its way to the better was Electrical Storm.
But Vertigo tour and specialy the the last 5th leg was one of his better. He hit the high C in Wide Awake on alot of Bad performences(he dint on JT/LT/ZOOTV). High C on WGRYWH. He holded notes in 11 seconds. He holded the chours in Pride(never done before), he hit an high E5 in falsetto... If you see in high notes and long holded notes, Vertigo tour is his best ever. And also the union chapel show. Wow!
The high Wave note in WOS are another good example of a powerful sound Bono would never in the 80's and the 90's be able to get.

Perhaps, I just have my doubts...like I say, I think Bono's genuine peak was c. the late 80s/early 90s - on some of the later shows on Vertigo, he was showing some amazing vocals (e.g. WGRYWH in Honolulu, the final "don't you look back" blows me away everytime, it must be said) but I have to agree with a lot of people, for the majority of the shows he had trouble with stuff like WOWY...not to say that there weren't some amazing versions, but it just seemed he was struggling with the opening verses - once he got going, things took off.
Well there is the 5 star Jersey show... on the lyric "Let me be your love tonight" in EBTTRT he sounds like a drunken teenager (aka my friends with my mic)

JT voice was pristine, silky smooth and amazing range. He could hit any note without any effort. If you have smoked and drunk as much as Bono has over the years your voice is bound to deteriorate but I think it holds up very well still. I don't think it was a matter of Bono having trouble with WOWY. I just don't think he gave a f*ck about singing it last tour. There was no effort or passion. As I said in one of the BRTs he sounds like dying mule. The "don't look back" was something special in Honolulu. I think it was lifted further by fan's keyboard cameo.

The thing is that Bonos voice these days are better then we think, he is hittning High C's High A's on almost every show. He holds that notes amazing clean and long:

"L'amoure" in MS in 11 sec
"You" in AIWIY in 7 sec

Anyone heard A Dying Sailor To His Shipmates? Well that blows away any 80's and 90's deep voice singing.

Sorry mate, have to disagree - most of the JT tour, he was putting on that weird grunty effect on his voice, Streets was never quite there because it would (for me) be spoilt by random grunting and huffing. That said, TUF was awesome during JT

He wasn't for most of it lol? Some of the earlier shows, you could hear that he was really straining himself. However, on later shows, such as the Milan show on the DVD, his voice was something back to his best. He's not once yet reproduced SYCMIOYO live like he did on the album, which for me is still the best version. It's by no means his worst voice, but I still won't agree that it's his best.
And ZooTV, take the DVD - ok, Pride wasn't great shakes but it was in a high key. Lemon, WOWY and Love Is Blindness were incredible, and on most the shows that I've heard, he was in great shape for most of it. There were some off-performances, but for the most part it was incredible
