1. Anyone know more about this performance? Date is 2/17/98. During some parts it sounds almost as if Bono is crying or in pain while trying to sing the song. Very emotional performance throughout. I know most don't care for the Pop versions of Bad, and Santiago generally overshadows the few others, but this one's special. Recording is somewhat decent, but worth a listen for sure!
  2. he really poured it all into those performances of Bad. Maybe he was thinking of his late friend Micheal Hutchence. Or maybe he was crying in pain because his voice was really strained during that part of the tour and Bad is a hard song on the voicebox if you really tru and sing it.

Just my 2 cents. Haven't heard any other reasons
  3. Yeah I think particuarly being at Perth he felt very close to Michael and the emotion overtook him. The Popmart versions of Bad are pretty overlooked really, but I think a few of them are really special, the Santiago one obviously, but Sydney's very good also and the Tokyo rendition features a really emotive vocal by Bono.
  4. I was at the Melbourne show and yes Bad was very emotional as was One and Wake Up Dead Man...... was a very solemn feeling as they walked off stage to I think it was Nick Cave on the PA system (please correct me if I'm wrong about that)

Will Have to dig up those shows and have another listem!

    Cheers
