Following on from a discussion started in the hello fellow u2 fans from Wales topic:-

I thought I'd just create a topic for those that want to talk about the ongoing Rugby World Cup. Not sure how many of the Europeans on here watch it but I know the Welsh and Irish amongst us have mentioned it and I suspect Tui might have something to contribute about the poor performances to date by her home team ( )
Anything goes but let's keep it clean!

good idea. Bitterly bitterly dissapointed with Ireland. They were meant to be the best hope of the home nations but 14-10 against Georgia? Come on

Thought I'd kick us off by agreeing with Angel or Devil :-

100% agreement from me. Southern hemisphere for certain to win this thing. Suspect itmay be only us and Scotland in the quarters based on current performance. Ireland have a hill to climb to beat Argentina and France and I'm not sure of England's chances against Samoa (unless they can pull this 'big game' out of the bag that they keep going on about)

Beat me to it!!
Yeh, I was listening to that game on the radio and was very surprised. I'd assumed the Namibia game was a blip. Do you think your team's a bit long int he tooth or is O'Sullivan to blame?

I wished I knew who or what to blame. the team have lost grasp of all the basics (passing, catching). Everythings went out the window. They just can't get it together and I don't know if they can recover

The Welsh team went through a similar thing a few years ago and we recovered but we had to get back to basics and start with a new team and coach.
No time to do that during a World Cup though so hopefully they can just pull it together to string 160 minutes agaianst France and Argentina. Wouldn't want to see your side not do well, and definitely don't want to see France get any further (no offence to any Frenchman)

I sure hope they can get it together. I felt good about them going into the world cup but they just aren't delivering. Who knows if they can string a few good games together

Hey do you agree that there is usually a lot of pressure put on the Ireland rugby side. For the past few six nations in the build up the presenters always say that Ireland are the team to look out for and are capable of winning it. Most six nations fans also agree with that, but Ireland always seem to fall just short. Away from the world cup i think Ireland are a good consistent side compared to England and Wales, as you don't know what you're gonna get with them.
Ireland haven't had the best start to their world cup campaign but at least their next game is against a side they are used to playing against (France) compared to namibia and georgia.
Did anyone see the england and south africa game? Ten minutes in and the commentators were already beginning to talk about half time and the next game. Talk about being a defeatist.

and at least they won their games. Brutal to watch though. My Irish pride hasn't been flowing yet when watching them. Bring on Paris on friday though. Hopefully we rise to the occasion

I have to agree with you guys, Ireland could have played better!!
I saw the match, and I also have to give credit to Georgia... who managed to play a very good game...
I'm not that much of a fan of Rugby, a couple of my cousins played rugby for their schools and for their clubs here in Argentina, not professionnally though.
Only one of my cousins played for the Pumas, but for a short while, he then turned to his studys.
And as far as I'm concerned, Argentina's PUMAS seem to be a big promise for this Cup.

I forgot to credit Georgia for their performance against Ireland. Truly stunning. They put blood, sweat and tears into that game. They are all monsters on that team. Huge big guys all of them
