As for the questions of multiple guitars...

The records all have multiple guitar tracks. For live applications, The Edge makes a composite of what will make the song translate live. In some cases, there is some guitar parts that are sequenced.

Example: There sounds to be two guitars going during Bullet The Blue Sky during the shows in certain parts. Chances are, it's sequenced.

Bono plays some of the second guitar parts. The idea that Dallas is playing guitar with all else he has to do sounds almost impossible but I guess there could be some. But it is more likely someone else understage playing if there is someone helping cover a part. I thought I remembered reading that there were a few easy bits that Frasier (Bono's old tech) would help with -- although few and far between.

Streets on Vertigo tour. What Strat is that?

The Stratocaster used for "Streets..." on the Vertigo tour was a 1973, from what Dallas has said. At first look, that vintage would seem incorrect in that the all black (with black pickguard, black pickup covers, etc, only became an offered option in 1975-1981 on Standard Stratocasters.

But - if you look at the pickup selector, the tip is white and not black. This leads me to believe that it might be a 1973 and that Edge had Dallas swap out the white pickup covers and pickguard to look like his original all black (supposedly 1979 vintage) Stratocaster; like the one seen in Under A Blood Red Sky.

Macphistfly -- You might be right about Telecasters and Rickenbackers on the new album. A mate of mine said that Dallas was in a shop in Chicago and had bought a few vintage Rickenbacker SIX string guitars for The Edge. (THe Edge usually using Rickenbacker 12 strings only, not 6's)

Yes i heard about this, and my suspicions from way back in the release of WITS was confirmed.
The next album will be dominated in my opinion by the twang sounds of the two guitars.
I was very excited when hearing about the purchase of the 6 string, its a first for Edge and i hope it turns out well.

I'd also love to hear him go out there and use another brand of guitar he's never used, maybe a parker?

During the days of ZooTV they had that almost comedy crew during some of the outside broadcast session, i believe during their coverage of maybe desire, maybe zoo Station, they passed by Dallas, and he was wearing a black Gibson jamming away.
The question is whose gaps was he filling Bono's or Edge's?

My favourite guitar was his cream Gibson LP he used for UTEOTW most of the time until he sold it.

That's the most ridiculous thing I saw on that auction, and if it is the case that he's auctioning off the Explorer, it's hats off to an iconic piece of kit - it should be noted though that he never claimed to have a favourite guitar, so we shouldn't be surprised lol...

But was that Explorer not his first ever proper guitar? That thing chimed out the opening notes on the first song of their first album and he's used it right up until the Vertigo tour. Madness. Why doesn't he just auction off a load of beanies?

Probably to show that he's serious about Music Rising and helping those that it does help - you think, it's iconic in itself, played by an iconic figure in the history of rock music, it's gonna fetch a hefty amount for sure which will go towards Music Rising etc. If I was able to, I'd bid lol! But I don't have any money and I can't play Explorer shaped guitars, fucking awkward lol...

I'd rather have had his cream LP he sold off for the same thing...he's got plenty of them though lol...
