the Achtung Baby singles are cool because if you have all of them (except One) it makes a trabant picture

Great topic - I think design is an important part of U2s success.

Best U2 album art:

My personal No.1 is Rattle and Hum - incredible pic though it only features Bono & Edge. Drawback is that it's another b&w band pic after TJT. I think TJT was the most important art concept in U2's career - the simplistic b&w covers helped cementing their superstar status. HTDAAB with its red beams is still good but the single covers are IMHO significantly weaker. AB was not only musically but also visibly an impressive self- reinvention, and the Trabis and the TV screens made for a unique concept. War is fantastic but probably a little too pathetic. Heck, most of them are great stuff - with the exception of October and WAIA, of course. The UF, TJT and ATYCLB band pics create great atmosphere. The highly original and recognizable Boy cover IMHO helped the band a lot in the beginning. I don't like the coloring of Zooropa much. WAIA tries to recycle UABRS - that wouldn't have been necessary. ATYCLB countercolors the TJT style and so brought a visible reflection to that sound after the overmodernized Pop - good idea.

Worst U2 album art: Boy (US) - forgettable

Best U2 single art:

One (I'm really stunned by the pic of the falling buffalos - amazing) Desire is great because it matches the album so strongly. AOH, WLCTT and AIWIY draw back on TJT too much. I think the similarity of the R&H and TJT artwork was another reason that forced the band to reinvent itself on AB.

Worst U2 single art: 11 o'clock Tick Tock - has this kind of art ever been up-to-date? I have to admit that I don't like the artwork of the HTDAAB singles much. Sorry.

Best Album - The Joshua Tree (So iconic)

Worst Album - October (Terrible hair cuts)

Best Single - Pride (In The Name Of Love) (MLK picture, enough said........)

Worst Single - The Saints Are Coming (Bono & Billy-Joe catching flies..........)

But I gotta say I love the 18 Singles Album Cover, that picture of the lads is brilliant.

Off topic,Marty I'm gonna cut you some slack buddy as your 14,but you have never heared The Joshua Tree ? My friend go and listen to the U2 Bible,be prepared to be amazed and report back...........

Thanks for the credit!
Just an opinion: I think Beautiful Day's cover would have had to be more landscape/planes-like...

Hey Gerard, just add 40 as the worst single cover and our lists will be exactly equal one another!

Oh, sad thing yours Marty...
I really hope you will be able to get your own copy very soon. The Joshua Tree is one of the best album ever to be particularly wonderful if you listen to the CD, from track 1 to 11 without any pause. With mp3 will never be the same.
Tell me if you still don't find your copy, I will buy one for you here.
