Best opener for me was Mofo. If Zoo Station had gone forward 13 years or so, i.e. they'd used to Vertigo format, I might have been inclined to disagree, but for me the guitar was too pingy (it's what I'm not too keen on re. the album version - still a great song but once you here a Vertigo encore version, it's just not the same...). Streets and COBL are epic and build up, but they just don't beat Mofo for me. You have the PopMuzik bit, and then through the hectic miasma of noise, you get this amazing bassline melting all before it, and then Larry kicks in with the drums, Edge does the high pitch whiney thing which gets me everytime, and by this point the whole place is in the stratosphere...

I did like Elevation with the extended intro., but I'm not too keen on stuff like IWF and Vertigo (LAPOE was a nifty idea though). That said, if I had been to a show where they opened with something like that, I'd hardly have complained!

IMO, City was the best concert opener they've ever had, with Zoo Station and Mofo tied for second. That's really where it belongs, although opening an encore with it would work very well, too.

But maybe it's just because I absolutely love that song...

Ahaha, I love the song too, but like I said, I just think Mofo had everything and got the blood pumping like nothing else I've come across. Stick any live version of Mofo on whilst you're in the car would beat the living shit out of any "gangsta's" sound system lol...

opener, i'm glad they experimented with it and tried different things out, it worked well during the European leg but that song is magic as an opener, with Bono coming out at the tip of the ellipse/the b-stage. opener all the way

If we compared COBL with other openers i think zoo station or Mofo are more stronger but also i liked Cobl as opening on the Chicago DVD

cobl was an awesome opener! I was hoping they would open with cobl more often when quite a lot of the first vertigo tour shows opened with vertigo! and so glad they changed!

Btw, I agree about it being a sequel to streets.

My favorite HTDAAB song by far, but the intro only works for me as an opener. It worked great in that moment when you are thinking "Holy shit, they're onstage and the concert is starting!" But later on in the setlist, I thought the long intro was a drag.

Yeah good call. I thought COBL was lost in the setlist if it wasn't the opener so I'm glad that it was for most of the tour. One thing's for sure U2 know how to pick good openers. COBL for me is equal second with Zoo Station behind Mofo.

Nothing got the crowd started like Mofo. It had a great build-up with excellent visuals and Bono just went off from the first note. Bring back MOFO!
