My vote for #1 is 1989/12/26, X-mas at the Point Depot. WOW! what a show, maybe my favorite overall.
-Angel of Harlem (w/ the piano, suspicious minds snippet)
-When Love Comes to Town (bono says, "the man invented the blues." BB King says, "My cure for the blues tonight... I said my cure for the BLUES tonight... is L-O-V-E." also note the delivery on "i threw the dice when they pierced his sii-iidee")
-Love Rescue Me - aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!! is all i can say. bono sings his bollocks off, i've never heard a better performance of this. PLEASE someone else vote this as better than 1990-01-10 because it is way better. i know 1990-01-10 has the speech about heroes and all, but go back and listen to 4:10 - 5:10 from 1989/12/26 and then decide for yourself. at 4:45 bono lets out this heavenly wail if you haven't heard it you are missing out.
-With Or Without You / Shine Like Stars - 3:17 shouts "with or withooooooouuuuut yoooouuuuu" it's just like "trampled in dust!" earlier in the show. bono was on fire that night.
-40 - there have been better versions but it's still good
4 out of 5 are landmark versions of each song.
---
my vote for #2 is 1992/08/16 Washington DC, Calling the White House
-Desire "ya know something? you're one f***in' ugly son of a b***h" "i believe in M&Ms. i believe in coca-cola."
-Ultraviolet (fantastic version of this song, esp. "I was all f***ed up, i had an opera in my head"
-With or Without You - famous version "let's get married! let's go to vegas!" famous edge solo @ 4:46
Isn't that the show where there was a break in the set and everyone started chanting "U2 U2 U2!....." and then they began singing 40 and then the bass line to 40 started. If not that was still an awesome moment. Never heared a crowd chanting U2 U2! before.
I agree that it's possibly the best encore list (point depot)....can't think of any better at the mo. Thanks for saying your second I wondered which bott the "lets get married, lets go to vegas" intro to with or without u came from.
You probably will think that I'm a snob or a few-boots-owner, but my favourite encore is from Sydney 93.
19 - Daddy's Gonna Pay... Absolutely amazing version (the best of all played once), I love the part when Bono goes out from his room and screams "Dady's Gonna Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy YEAH!!". My favourite moment of the concert, I think. Plus, the speech is amazing. Rate: 10/10.
20 - Lemon .... Bono dancing Spanish "Sevillanas" is unreachable for any other encore song..... Also incredible falsetto. Rate: 9/10.
21 - With Or Without You .... The link between Lemon and WOWY deserves a forum itself. Best transition ever. The WOWY version is not their best, but only for the transition, I rate it with a 9/10...
22 - Love Is Blindness ... I think we are on the best version ever of LIB. The scream of 02:20, (before the 1st solo of Edge) is absolutely amazing.... Rate: 10/10
23 - Can't Help Falling In Love .... Not the best version, but great anyway. With a bit more of audience and the Elvis part at the end, t would deserve a 10. Rate: 8,5/10.
So, (10+9+9+10+8.5) / 5 = 9'3 of average note. Amazing!!

Agree, this transitionis among the list All I want is You/Streets, Please/Streets, Running To Stand Still/Streets etc.
I agree that this is their best encore!
I think it's hard to beat the ZooTV shows for their encores, full stop. But I'm biased as Love is Blindness is my favourite ending. Of the two mentioned here I'd have to go with Washington DC, simply as I don't like "Daddy's..." (always skip it on the DVD), and WOWY is stunning at DC.

Yeah, bit it beats all of them

Why don't you like Daddys?? I think it's a great (and full of irony and sarcasm against Capitalism, Consumism, etc...) song! Well, a matter of tastes once again...

Yeh, matter of taste. Maybe I've been unfairly put off the live version because I could never stand the album version (it's the only U2 song deleted from my iPod) and in fairness I've never even actually listened to it live. Given U2's usual ability to improve / change everything live perhaps I should.
Would you say it's any different to the album version?
its cooler hes dressed up as McPhisto and the cannons on stage shoot out money its great makes the phone call and calls a tax great stuff give it a chance i HATED DADDY'S at first but then found it interesting
