There are records of Shadows And Tall Trees from the very early days of U2 (it was, in fact, played in the same show where The Hype was finished, early 1978), and A Day Without Me was being played (and recorded) by mid 1979. While 11 O'Clock Tick Tock wasn't played until mid 1980 (or late 1979 if you count Silver Lining).

    Silver Lining counts, since it's roughly the same as 11 O'Clock, musically...

    I wouldn't have guessed that 22 out of 18 would be from the 80s That surprised me a lot to be honest, I thought there would be more balance between 80s and 90s, something like 17-17 and then 6 from the 10s.

    Thinking about it, I'd take Wire and Shadows off and substitute it with One and Running To Stand Still, and maybe Spanish Eyes ain't worthy of the 40-list either... Maybe have Moment Of Surrender instead. But overall it's a pretty decent list and I don't think it would/will change much.


    All in the ears of the listener, my friend. It was hard for me to leave RTST off too...

  10. Off topic, but since I finally listened to a recording of Silver Lining with (mainly) intelligible lyrics.... I have it stuck in my head. I'd have liked to see them snippet it a couple of times, maybe every now and then sing 'take me, silver lining' instead of 'hear the children crying,' that would have been too cool!
