Performance

Despite glitches with Bono’s monitors, the band performance was great. There was a clear difference between the Oct 7 show (which was also great) & this one. The band seemed more relaxed & to really be enjoying themselves on stage, feeding off of the crowd energy, which was a lot higher than in October. Edge’s solos were incredible, Adam & Bram were locked in, & Bono sounded great.

Audience

Overall, the crowd was really into this show. A lot more singing along and excitement than in October. The section I was in on the 200 level was a mixed bag. A good number of fans who were going wild for every song, singing along, etc. However, there were also quite a few people who may have been there to say they were at the Sphere, but not necessarily as excited to see U2, & who were filming themselves more than enjoying the band. But who am I to judge? If they enjoyed it that way, okay! Everyone was friendly & happy to be there & that was a positive.

Overall

My second show at the Sphere & I think the band was better than the 10/7 show, which was, to be fair, an excellent show, but an early one in the run. They seemed more confident (if that’s the correct word) and polished overall, which makes sense given how many times they’ve performed since October. The changes to the visuals for “Ultraviolet” worked better in section 200 than the “color poofs,” taking advantage of more of the massive screen. The changes to “Tryin’ To Throw Your Arms Around The World” worked better than the bringing the fan up on stage bit from October & reminded me of Bono’s Surrender book tour performances. The crowd in my section in the 200s got the most excited for “the greatest hits” and some people tuned out during some songs, but to each their own. A very, very strong show & possibly one of the best during this residency.
