Performance

U2 are in their comfort zone now with JT30 and enjoying each night, encouraging the crowd to come on the journey as they explore The Joshua Tree, some 30 years after its initial release. Larry opens the show with a superb drum solo introducing the crowd to Sunday Bloody Sunday, before The Edge steps out, followed by Bono and finally Adam. They lead the crowd through a further 3 songs including, New years Day, Bad and Pride with no visuals, just four band members on the B Stage rocking with 55000 audience members.
JT opens and introduces the audience to the gigantic screen that flashes images throughout the night that reflects the songs or their roots. Never a dull moment there is always something to catch the eye.
From the minute they arrive to lead the crowd through the songs that led to JT to the moment they leave, closing with the new song 'The little Things that Give You Away', they are at one with the vast audience.

Audience

A vibrant audience despite the GA having spent most of the day in the blistering heat. Audience participation was very good and the more commercial songs of the JT A Side were very well received.
Thank you people of Barcelona, for a truly memorable night!

Overall

Took on the GA line from 2130hrs on Monday meeting up with the very well organised U2 Valencia who ran the line. Having received our number, we were checked in at 2300hrs and then told to return no later than 0600hrs on Tuesday.
An early morning alarm call and quick taxi ride to the stadium seen us receive wrist bands with allocated numbers, dependent on arrival times at the GA line. Again we were allowed to go and get breakfast before returning at 1000hrs for the long wait for the gates to open.
The entry into the stadium, despite some early rushes, was flawless and U2 Valencia ran an outstanding GA line, a great example of doing it the right way. This was best displayed when the numbers were mixed up just prior to entering the stadium. Despite everyone being in their pens, they insisted on everyone moving back out of the pens and re-entering everyone in the correct order. (A brilliant move that ensured it was fair).
At around 1700hrs we were escorted into the stadium 50 at a time and walked around the perimeter. This ensured those who had braved the long wait got their preferred spot.
Was it worth it, yes without a doubt. A place on the front rail to see U2 at their best, performing the album that catapulted them to international stardom was certainly worth all the effort.
NGHB opened the show and delivered a brave, honest and quality performance with some of Oasis biggest hits in amongst the set.
U2 set was further proof of their international status as one, if not the best rock band in the world.
How will they follow this? Yes with the release of the new album and tour. But one could only hope for a similar tour, showcasing their early years up to and including The Unforgettable Fire. Now that would be worth doing it all again for.
