Performance:
They would go on to do better in this leg; however 5th Leg is a standout of this tour and it does come together well. WOWY is listenable, which for a Vertigo boot is saying quite a lot. Kite must have given goosebumps to the audience, although it did go on to be bettered. Walk On is a nice inclusion. Otherwise, standard Vertigo fare, although performed solidly.
Audience:
Very intrusive on this recording, spoils the listening to me. But, very enthusiastic and clearly loving the show. And that's what this rating is for
Sound:
Pretty awful. I didn't enjoy this listening experience at all. Particularly when there are other. much better 5th Leg boots out there
Overall:
By all means give this a try, the performance is worth it. But the sound severely drags it down (I very nearly gave 3 stars just because of this) and makes it an uncomfortable listen. Much better 5th leg material is available and if you're limited to space or download options they would serve you better (Sydney, Saitama etc).

Performance:
I love the last leg of the Vertigo Tour, but this one wasn't that great, methinks. As Gerard pointed out earlier, it was their first gig in months, so we shouldn't be that harsh towards them. His voice was quite good, but it became better on the later shows. The rest was just on basic fire. Standouts for me were:
- Walk On, very different feel to it and some here didn't like it, but I was surprised with it.
- Bullet the Blue Sky: Love these performances with The Hands That Built America..just great.
- Zoo Station: Always good to hear.
- With Or Without You: Nice snippet, good feel to it. Just a good one.
- Kite: Not that good compared to other ones during Vertigo, but this version kicks ass nevertheless.
On a further note: skip Pride...
Audience:
Good, enthusiastic. Some good singalongs.
Sound:
Not that good. It deserves a 3-star, but a 2.5 would fit too. But Bono is audible, but very muffy. The other instruments sound okay to me, but it sounds like it's recorded at another room.
Overall:
This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated.

Performance:
The show itself is very good in my opinion - typical 5th leg fare, if not one of the better shows on the aforementioned leg - which makes up for the below-average audio quality. As I mentioned, the crowd seem to really get into the show (aside from the stupid conversations!) and the band themselves seem to really enjoy themselves. The varied setlist is also a treat, a couple of examples being Yahweh being brought forward into the main set to break things up and Walk On - a Vertigo rarity, and thus adding to the show with its very presence - receiving a full-electric makeover, and aside from the imperfect execution, really standing out. In this respect, I compiled a few highlights;
- Bono's singing: on occasions, he was really belting it out, which, considering the 8-month layoff, was pretty impressive, a couple of highlights being COBL (especially when he sings "time won't leave me as I am"); Beautiful Day (the extended "touch me" after the middle 8 blew me away) and SYCMIOYO.
- As previously mentioned, the varied Vertigo setlist (no doubt to include an Elevation feel because of missing out the Oceanic regions on the last tour) including UTEOTW, Walk On, the belated return of Angel of Harlem (after a long absence throughout most of the tour) and Kite getting a revival.
- SBS; really arse-kicking performance.
- WTSHNN/One: damn me, if both songs didn't get the whole place going. Streets was full of energy, and One was a great performance. Good stuff.
- The whole encore - the ZooTV theme to the first half was great. Zoo Station was an exemplary example of why I prefer Vertigo to ZooTV renditions, what with Edge's guitar being so much more prominent and Larry's drums blowing the world apart; The Fly and WOWY were both good, especially on the latter when the crowd really started getting into it. The 2nd half was great too; although I'm not a fan of TSAC, one can't deny that it was a good performance and the crowd loved it; Angel of Harlem and Kite were, as ever on the tour, great.
There weren't really any genuine downsides to the show performance-wise for me, apart from perhaps Elevation and BTBS; the former because I'm not a big fan (although the fact they didn't draw it out and wait after the first verse for everyone to kick in was a blessing for me!) and the latter because it just seemed to take so bloody long to get going - it only took off once Edge was a fair way into his solo...
Audience:

Sound:
Well, for the most part, until the latter stages of the show, the quality of the recording is questionable, at best (NB - I haven't checked out the update yet, but I'm trusting Gerard when he says its slightly improved, which would make this worthy of the 3-star status it has). I think in its current form, the 3-star is too nice if you consider the majority of the show is pretty dodgy - everything is fairly clear in itself, but not great. Bono's voice carries through the best of the 4 band members, and Adam's bass is pretty clear and really drives the music along. Edge's guitar has good songs, and some bad songs in as far as how clear and standout he is, but Larry seems to suffer the most because for the most part, there's not enough power coming from him and so the music itself loses something.
All in all, it's very much like listening to a radio through a thick wall with polystyrene in your ears, i.e. not great. However, like I say, it picks up during the latter stages of the main set, which benefits the show. However, the main gripe is the audience surrounding the recorder - ok, they are very much part of the show and add to the atmosphere, but it does sound a bit like being at a small venue and there being a limited number of people in the vicinity, not to mention a couple of them talk about some real crap! One standout point definitely has to be the conversation during Bullet The Blue Sky (I think), where a woman starts rattling on about "tall people always getting to the front" - this may be true, but keep it to yourself and just enjoy the bloody show!
Overall:
Overall, I liked the show - granted, I wouldn't call it one of the standout shows from the 5th leg but it's still great. It gets my recommendation as long as you take note of the many warnings regarding the quality of the audio! I wouldn't give it "must-have" status, but I definitely think it rates higher than merely being considered as "die-hard collector material".

Performance:
It's a very surreal thing, listening to a show you attended and loved every second of. Obviously, objective reviewing is thrown out the window here.
I felt the boys delivered a solid show to kick off the final leg of the Vertigo Tour. The setlist had somewhat evolved into a 'Best Of' with an obvious focus on HTDAAB and ATYCLB to pay the fans back after not touring during Elevation - the first Aussie show since Popmart.
You could tell Bono in particular was pleased to take to the stage again after an 8-month lay-off. His voice was better than South America but was still warming up and a long way from reaching the beautiful heights of Saitama. His showmanship was on display also, even seeing fit to inject himself into the local political hot potato at the time: "Tonight we're calling for (former Australian Guantanamo prisoner) David Hicks to be brought back to Australia to face a fair trial" and during Streets "That's right, Mr Howard!"
While I'm quoting I can't go past this little beauty before One "Look at that beautiful moon. Oh, that's a spotlight... "
All classics were delivered proficiently with a joyous enthusiasm. Walk On in particular (not a fan of the song) was a refreshing addition and got the crowd going from the first note, opening set did the job and the War and Human Rights sets lifted the atmosphere to another level. It was rounded out by a very impressive encore performance including a vibrant rendition of Angel of Harlem (see highlights)
Highlights:
The whole show....
Out of this recording, I've got to say Walk On. It was really the bright spot in the first half of the show.
Angel of Harlem towards the end was a gem. It's a real crowd pleaser in Australia. Bono's rap around the middle was superb and the snippet was a nice touch.
Kite was a brilliant closer. I remember thinking "This is the very first time they've played it this way. What a treat" That it was.
The Streets Of Your Town snippets were surprising, yet touching, tributes to the late Grant McLennan, co-founder of legendary Brisbane band The Go-Betweens.
Lowlights:
None to speak of.
Audience:
This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated.
Sound:
Pretty average. The band were very distant. Edge never really came out to play and Larry lacked penetration thoughout the whole recording. Even Bono was quite muffled. Only very audible band member was Adam. In fact, he was drowning Edge out on numerous occasions I felt.
However, arguably the biggest downer of the whole recording was the audience. This was much worse than the previous BRT show (Turin, Elevation). The crowd in the vicinity of the taper were just way, way, way, way, way, way too audible. Collective cheers and sing-alongs are a vital ingredient for an excellent audience recording but when you can clearly hear individual conversations it disintegrates the whole listening pleasure. This reached almost unbearable levels when two girls were bitching about not being able to see throughout Bullet the Blue Sky and Miss Sarajevo. "We need to get a bit closer...."The tall people are always at the front... "Can you see through there...I don't think this is gonna work..."There's so much space in that thingy (ellipse) down there" For goodness sake shut the f*ck up so we can listen to the goddam show! The taper must have been spitting chips!
Overall, between the audience in my ear and me constantly thinking "Edge where the hell are you?" this just scraped over the line as a 3-star.
Overall:
A brilliant fifth leg opener. Time to download the upgrade that Gerard posted. The sound on this one did not deliver the overwhelming potential the actual show clearly had.

Performance:
U2 kicked off their six-show Australian tour for 2006 firstly in Brisbane, Queensland, rescheduled from March 2006 as we know - the first U2 performance since February 1998 on POPmart - as we missed out on Elevation. I still can't believe that the greatest band in the world was here almost two years ago, yet it feels like yesterday - I can still remember listening to the very first rehearsals that I was sent a day after they took place, and seeing all the photos.
I don't think any of the songs here were really performed badly (unlike the late 2005 stuff in North America), but have a go of the vocals during Beautiful Day. Bono held his notes beautifully here, and for the first show of the last leg, Miss Sarajevo was performed greatly. So the Australian performances got what they missed all those years ago with plenty of ATYCLB - Beautiful Day, Walk On and Kite were just great.
I've said that I'm not a huge fan of One and never have been (it's just missing something) but for some reason on all of the final 2006 shows, I found it to be a real beautiful song and I actually enjoyed it. I don't know why. As aussiemofo has said, there were some brilliant Australian moments (Streets of Your Town, Young Americans (changed to Young Australians) and Bono's plea for David Hicks to face a fair trial). I'm sure many people would know his treatment was a sick joke.
And that performance of Kite was something to behold. Throughout the entire Australian set, every night this got the justice it deserved back on the Elevation Tour, because it is a beautiful song, and the crowd getting into The Saints Are Coming was nothing short of brilliant. This is gonna take off on the next tour, if it is indeed played ever again.
Audience:
This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated.
Sound:
Certainly not the best Australian Vertigo show I've heard related to sound - I'd say some of the Sydney shows (and even the Melbourne ones) sounded way better. It seemed like the taper was just too far away from the speaker stacks, and probably more towards the back - I've heard better, but it was there.
The good thing was that I could pick up Larry's drumming, Adam's bass and Edge's guitar, particularly during the first hour. For a recording supposedly not one of the best Australian ones going around, I could certainly pick them up. Did anyone else think the recording made the show sound like the audience was hardly there?
Overall:
All in all, a wonderful show and I would have loved to have been there.

Walk On, although under-rehearsed sounded very good. The solo in the middle was nice, no drums just guitar and it had an alternative solo at the end. Kite was ok. No real high points

Performance:
Performance is great all the way through. not a note missed, or hit to soon. Allthough, during Vertigo, something happened to Edge around 2:39, but I'm guesing it was the guitar or something.
Audience:
This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated.
Sound:
The sound quality is 2.5 at most, you can barely hear the band sometimes. On top of that, Edge isn't loud enough at all. You can never hear him singing in this Boot, and the guitar isn't loud enough. Although, I like how you can hear Adam jamming along.
Overall:
I'm actually a fan of this Boot. With the crowd being so loud, you can hear their singing, and even a few conversations. Its gives the feeling that your interacting with them in a way. I really felt that I was right there, next to the taper. For that reason, I am a fan of this Boot. And, the unbelievable setlist. And, as someone mentioned earlier, a great opener for the fifth leg of the tour

Performance:
This said there was nothing wrong with the bands performance, it was not the best I’ve heard, songs such as Walk On sounded “rusty”, and Vertigo had its difficulties, but there was no question that this was the band heading towards the top form shown in the Melbourne and Sydney, if not quite there yet. Bonos voice, of what I could hear, sounds recovered and energised from the South American gigs and spirts where high. At the start, from and untrained ear it sounded like The Edge had technical difficulties with the Guitar cutting out in Vertigo and with something not quite right in Walk On, though those who know know more could easily prove me wrong.
Highlghts
Walk On – Not at its best, could even be considered crap compared to some elevation shows and the following Sydney show, but it made a change.
The Crowd (apart from in BTBS) – Defently put across the energy of the gig
The Fly – again not the best, but it stood out, and a great transistion into WOWY
Audience:
This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated.
Sound:
Each bootleg has there moment of magic, and is this case it was its down fall which was its heroin. Despite the incredibly annoying ladies who were more interested in chatting about getting a good view, I listened to this bootleg enjoying hearing people have a good time, the cheers and “Oh My God”’s when the piano kicked in with City of Blinding Lights, the singing along to every song and the fun of hearing the crowd get it wrong when Bono changes the Lyrics In Walk On. At the end of Love and Peace or Else, you know the crowd would go wild when the drums of Sunday Bloody Sunday started. It was a bootleg where the energy of the crowd was far more predominant than the band itself, and this, in my view, made it a good listen.
The Band were listenable and not as bad as I had first got the impression. Parts did fade, get distorted or just go plain quite at times, but to no extent as to make this bootleg unlistenable, and in many ways it is similar to the Berlin gig from the Second Leg, but with a vastly more audible crowd.
Overall:
I actually think this is a good bootleg, I would rather have that crowd than a Elevation sound board

Performance:
Nothing really stands out, with the exception of a few songs. Walk On and SYCMIOYO were great. Miss Sarajevo is one of those songs that isn't really well known, but nonetheless a great song. Zoo Station and the Fly were good as always. I was happy with the encore. Zoo, Fly, WOWY, Saints, AOH and Kite are favorites of mine, so IMO it was a great encore.
Its a 5th leg Vertigo show, so that kinda explains itself. However the sound quality kinda counters that, but that's for another section
Highlights
Kite, which was awesome as always. Glad it was the set closer.
The Fly, which is always good whenever it's played
Lowlights
Still Haven't Found wasn't played
^kidding
Besides that, the band was good, but not great. I didn't find anything I disliked about it, setlist wise.
Audience:
On one the previous reviews, Elevation 2001-07-21 Torino, the audience saved the show. In this case, it was the exact opposite. Off-key singing and convos made it very hard to concentrate on the music.
I'll quote Pete Townshend, who I think sums up my feelings:
Originally posted by Pete Townshend, 1971-12-10 Long Beach, California:
This is fucking rock and roll concert, not a fucking tea party!
Sound:
This show ended up as a 3 star... very understandable sound wise. However, some people in the audience forget they're at a rock show and think its watching MTV in their living room. Also, it is the stereotypical expression of the term mp3. It isn't that good a recording to begin with. It's like listening to the Edge at Red Rocks... it just doesn't sound that good and the guitar seems far away. To try and listen to it reminds me of listening to The Rolling Stones bootlegs from 1969. If you don't understand that.... then I'll explain again. The band is somewhat clear, but just not audible enough.
Overall:
Overall, I thought it was a good show. There are far better shows quality wise out there, same for the audience. I think the set was great, just one thing missing from it. It didn't have any sparks or pizazz. That's what makes a bootleg so great. To capture something on tape is one thing, but when the show has the spark or tension, on tape it sounds like fire

Performance:
Well, this was the first show in months, so you have to keep that in mind before criticizing the bands performance here. I think you also have to consider that the sound quality (or lack thereof) can effect your views on a performance, and this is one of those shows. Would I think Larry's drumming during "Elevation" sounded horrible on a 5 star soundboard? Probably not. So I feel I can't really judge if the band was having an off night or not, because I was so distracted by the piss poor sound quality.
- Walk On was very different than most arrangements, but not in a good way.
- Until The End Of The World was placed in a very nice spot in the setlist, as I love the trio of Elevation - UTTEOTW - NYD.
- Kite was decent, although it lacked the energy that it usually has.
Audience:
Really energetic, and enthused. Just like any other Australian U2 show
Sound:
Horrible. If you were to record it from underneath the Brisbane river, this is what it would sound like. In more common terms, it was cold, distant, and not suitable for my sensitive ears lol....
Overall:
This part of the bootleg isn't reviewed, only rated.
